| Turner might have played in the 9's can't say I've seen him in first grade.
Mortimer is a decent interchange 9, can't say I've seen him in the halves for a long time.
I can't really think of any who might be available who fit our needs.
I really rate Cameron Cullen who is at Manly, but he's more of a runner who would play the role similar to what Moon is currently doing for us.

| I think I read on another forum that to sign Jordan Turner to a 3 and half year deal they offered him a pretty handsome wage. Whilst he's a decent player and can play a few positions, he ain't big money worthy.

| Seem to remember I was never convinced by him when his side was under pressure. Irrelevant now in any case.

Definately well avoided then, considering no coach seems to have ever been able to work out his best position.

| There really aren't many outstanding halfbacks in the NRL full stop. Any really good ones have no shortage of bidders in the NRL, and would be on way more than SL could afford. Widdopp may have been talking to Leeds, but his form this year would mean he'd be way out of our league now.
If you're going to the NRL you'll most likely get a plodder or someone with massive gaps in their game. If we were to go there I'd be tempted to go for someone like Tyrone Roberts (if he's available). He's got speed and a kicking game, if not the best playmaker. Alternatively I'd go completely the other way and look at someone like Hodkinson who is an organiser and not much else. Mind you, I'ver heard it said that his knees are gone.
The pickings are slim, and it also depends on who they're partnered with. Hodkinson could work with Moon but not Lilley, Roberts with Lilley but not Moon.
The risk is not just on missing out but on signing the wrong player who we're then stuck with for 3 years or more.

| I think the time has come for Leeds to pay a transfer fee and poach a top half back from this competition. I've not the foggiest who they'd have the best chance of getting but we need a new Jamie Peacock moment as that signing was a game changer. I think we've no chance of getting anyone decent from the NRL, the salary cap difference is too great so we need to look in this country... admittedly we would over pay but we need to make a significant move.

| Remember you got Peacock at the end of his Bradford deal. No transfer fee. When was the last sizeable transfer fee that Leeds paid? Iestyn?

Mortimer is available, cheap, 27, utility and has won a title with the Roosters.

Probably this. I expect Ellis cost more than Moon.
That was 13 years ago. Would Hetherington really splash the cash with Headingley needing all that money spending on it?'"
Not sure. His interest in Sam Burgess appeared genuine though to be honest I think it'd need to be a truly exceptional signing for him to splash cash in a big way. I don't see anyone of the required calibre on the radar tbh.

| I don't think Gale is good enough to bust the bank for. He will also turn 30 next year.
Personally the only SL player is pay a big transfer fee for is George Williams.

Don't think I've seen Feeney play in the halves, saw him at Fullback last year, is he any good? Brock Lamb looks a quality half coming through at Newcastle. They have a lot of good youngsters, just too many all at once and too many squad fillers

| I think he came through as a half but got his first games at FB and centre to get gametime. I think he has played a few there now and whilst i don't think he is going to get international honours he looks to me like he can be at the very least a good SL standard player for the next decade.

| There's a couple like that at Newcastle, they gave like four kids debuts in the halves last year and obviously all aren't going to make it there. The other two were Jack Cogger and Dylan Pythian

If your going down the route of recruiting from league 1 then would rather bring back Joe Sanderson who has been doing well at Hunslet, always felt it shame we let him go. My first preference would be to get a quality half...pay what it takes...but part of their contract would to be to aid the next generation..Tom Schofield in academy has been impressing of late.

| Feeney is the worst starting halfback in the NRL. Phythian is a fullback and is out injured for 12 months. Don't know anything about Cogger but if he can't get a gig at Newcastle he can't be any good, the Knights would be mid-table in Super League. Lamb will probably be a good player but will stay there.

Like I said, not seen much of Feeney, Pythian was good when I saw him last year, I don't think he played in the halves but I remember the commentator saying he had played there. Cogger was decent. I agree Lamb is the best of that group.
If I was signing a half from the Knights, I'd look at Hodkinson, gets a lot of the same stick Widdop previously has got, but also imo can do everything we are missing. Dont know how viable it is in terms of contract and willingness to come over though.

Even if that were true, i dont think there are more than maybe 3 SL players who would be starting half-backs in the NRL at most.
The worst starting half back in the NRL playing in the NRL, is like the shortest player in the NBA at a dwarf convention.

I don't really agree, but I absolutely love that analogy.
