| Listened to Slash on t'wireless last night, he complained a few years ago that rock music was going down the pan, he was asked last night if it was any better now, he thought it was worse, mainly due to the major record companies not being remotely interested anymore in anything that causes them to take risk, which translates to more of the same pop trash either from new artists (read, cheap) or established pop trash sellers who will make a profit on their albums.

Slash has a cheek.
From the bits I have heard on his new 'solo' record that defines 'rubbish'
He bemones standards sliding yet he is guilty of the same.
Meh.

I have to say that I wasn't that impressed with what I heard of it last night either, then again I never have been impressed by anything from that whole genre, every time I hear anything loosely defined as "Metal" I think of the hundreds of thousands of teenagers playing their guitars in bedrooms all over the land who could also make an equally bland noise

One thing I've remembered from the interview, he was asked how the whole "guesting" thing on his album had worked, had he written a song with a guest in mind or had he arranged the guest and then written the song ?
Nope, he'd strung a few chords together and sent an MP3 to the guest and invited them to contribute to it, add vocals, add a verse and chorus, do what the hell they liked with it - then they recorded the track together.
Brilliant idea
You get the album commission, you get your name on the front, you get the kudos of having loads of "names" come along and play on your album, you get to be interviewed all over the world on "your" album - and yet you've done buggah-all to create it
The bloke is a genius.

| Thing is (sorry for being general here) but guitar music is very stale at the mo IMO
far too many bands who sound the same who make dull and uninspiring music

New Klaxons is pants. I can't even think about a release I'm looking forward too. But I'm in a bad mood at present.

Only other ones i can think of that I'm looking forward to are:
The Drums
The Coral
Kula Shaker
Feeder
We Are Scientists
Chemical Brothers
Giggs
Kele
Delays
Professor Green
Delorian
Nothing really outstanding in that list but all will be worth a cheeky listen. Will be interesting to see what The Drums and Giggs can pull out after all the hype thats surrounded them. Also hoping the new Delays album will get them back on form after been out in the wilderness for a while

You wouldn't have been impressed with me last night.
I had few of the boys round from the station for drink and pizza and a bit of Wii.
The way it ended would have heavily backed up your 'big daft lads' theory!
But we couldn't resist putting some 'classic' on. From Appetite For Destruction, to Slippery When Wet, to The Black Album.
It nearly made me dig out my Fender from garage.......nearly.

Yeah the whole guesting thing - that's been done by a few acts in similar manner.
Why bother meeting up and recording vocals at the same point when you can do a bit of 'copy and pasting'??
On a related note I was reading an article in Rolling Stone a few weeks ago asking the question: How live is live? Basically you see a live band but what is actually live and what is isn't. Alot of the premium live bands may use backing tracks, loops and recorded vocals in a 'live' show.
You wouldn't get that with Dylan.

A few years ago I went to see Suede at Leeds Poly on some sort of "comeback" tour (they didn't comeback for long), one of the people with us was a person who has played in bands and worked in the recording business as an engineer for a long time, we stood at the back and drank beer but he went and stood halfway down the hall next to the sound engineers desk.
We did wonder from time to time where the keyboard player was on stage and why his keyboards seemed to be playing itself but at the end when our own recording engineer rejoined us his only comment about the band was that the hardest working person there that night was the engineer on the mixing desk.
That Miley Cyrus on BGT last night was miming - I can almost forgive them for singing live to a backing track on TV but to mime is just lazy or an admission that you are just a pretty face with no voice

There playing O2 arena later in the year!
A mate in his former band had a Single launch at Brudenell Social club a year or so back and he wasn't the main guitarist in the group but did his part while he singed
At this gig the band didnt sound as normal, a bit flat you might say, well a few minutes after the gig they had relised why, they had forgotten to turn my mates amp on
