| I'm sure I remember Josh Walters scoring in a grand final, so it's not impossible to win the comp with him in the team.

He missed the tackle to let Bowen in though.

He has been really poor though since that one great moment. Hasn't kicked on whatsoever, infact apart from showing a slight bit of promise when he first came in he has continued to regress imo.
Anyway, i agree with others that he is only a squad filler so not such a huge deal, however i personally would like to see an aspiring 19's player or Oledzki get his few minutes as i really don't see a future at the club for Walters or what he is bringing to the table.

just in the right place at the right time in the grand final. keinhorst put him over he only had to dive over the line. keinhorst kicked on since then walters has not, we have better coming through at least 3 players ready for or not far off ready for first team now. we let clarkson go who was a much better player so cant see walters being here next year, championship player at best.

Peacock and Hardaker didn't do so well with their attempts either.

| Quote ="RHINO-MARK"During our success the fringe players have managed to contribute though because the 1st choice regulars around them were performing to their potential & we had the required quality within that squad the 2015-GF a perfect example.
How many "1st choice" superstars actually performed during that time you highlight?
Finally i always agreed we were in transition but didagreed how it's been handled & still think the biggest phase is yet to come in terms of numbers of 1st team/choice players that need replacing.'"
Which fringe players of the past would you compare to Josh Walters? He makes Ian Kirke look like Jamie Peacock.
How many? Quite a few once they got fit and got some match time. We struggled before then because we had to rely too much on Div1 level players like Josh Walters.
No you didn't.

| I liked both Foster and Pitts. They had some good attacking skills but very much came through at the wrong time.
Worrall is a good comparison for Walters imo.

I'd say that fringe players like Josh Walters are one of the bigger issues at the club though.
One of the key reasons for us struggling so much last year is that outside of our first 17 we didn't, have anyone that could come in and do a job.'"
If we went for better/stronger players in that 20-25 shirt number range it would no doubt cost more money, and would spending that money there impact on our ability to retain our starters....which we've been extremely good at for quite a while now.

true. but your assuming we wouldn't have the cap space to do that. either way with some of our youngsters looking very strong I can't see walters being involved next season

Sir Kev S points out some of the fringe players we have seen over the years add in Anselme wrt Kirke his last 3yrs epitomised "passenger".
Easy to blame the likes of Walters when very few 1st team regulars actually performed until very late in the season/middle 8's place was confirmed.
Onto the transition period look back at what i actually said it had always started my pov was the Club in terms of enough planning & recruitment etc hadn't there's a difference.

| Sounds like Oledzki will get to play tomorrow, which excites me. Cannot wait to see what he has to offer at this level at such a young age.

| My only issue with Walters is that there is no sign at all of him ever being a good player and I'd rather players with potential get a go ahead of him.

This is very true.
Plus the overall involvement of a winger in SL will be 10x their involvement in a Championship RU game.

Thats how I see it. To me he's collamity, just runs around aimlessly and slips over a lot. Seems to carry a lot of unnecessary weight without much strength behind it. I'd much rather give someone younger a go as he's just making up numbers.
I also think of players such as Alex foster, Elliot minchella, Liam hood (I know he's a 9) who we've let go in similar time to keeping Walters who i all think have much more potential. Just seems a bad decision.
Also I know everyone keeps Saying he's a fringe player. But with all the injuries we've had he seems to be in the 19 more weeks than not. I think that's why it's brought to people attention more.
But I also agree with others, it's probably not our biggest concern. Although isn't he off contract at the end of this year anyway?

| Walters looked a great prospect in the short time he played in 19's and when he first broke into first team. Not sure WTF the conditioning team have done to him but he just looks and odd shape now and has lost that line speed he had to begin with.

He's a mate of a lad I work with, scored 4 tries in a recent trial in a Warrington reserve game. Pretty fast according to my colleague and out of contract with Carnegie this season + not getting a lot of game time.

Yes Kirke was a passenger, I never said otherwise. I did say and stand by saying that Walters makes him look like Jamie Peacock, hence him and other fringe players being a key issue.
Re transition.... Yeah OK , whatever
