| Might be more generous to say Wigan are more like Chelsea. Not pretty to watch but very effective, great at home and strong records against those teams at the top. Also their coaches are unpopular with opposition with what comes out of their mouths.

| Quote ="leeds owl"It's funny watching the frog eyed Roid O'Loughlin stagger from tackle to tackle and just collapse on top of the tackled player and 3 or 4 defenders. He has become a joke, like an arthritic pub drunk just pushing and dragging Leeds players over every time they played the ball in the last 20 minutes without any punishment from Silverwood. I had to laugh when he got up and started rollicking Silverwood before he played the ball and Silverwood wasn't man enough to penalise him the big girls blouse. it would be the most spiteful Grand Final of all time if we ended up playing them.'"
Typical South Stander moron mentality.

| I'd like a Leeds Wigan final. Would be a tasty affair and give Leeds a chance ti get a large monkey off their back (and I don't mean Wane).

| I'd say Cas are possibly like Southampton. Play some good stuff and not far off the top teams but will probably lose their best players when bigger clubs come sniffing for them.
Not sure about Hudds but Hull FC can be Newcastle. Good crowds but always think they should be higher up and challenging for things but inevitably end up struggling. Salford can be QPR, signing guys more interested in money and not having the team spirit to be successful. Bradford Bulls can be Leeds United, made a complete shambles of things off the pitch from a few different people in charge that saw their demise from the top league.

| So if we carried this football team analogy on to the National teams, I reckon England would still be England. Show promise in the build up, inspire a wave of optimism and hope before the big tournaments and despair after them. In summary play better on paper than on grass.

| For the record - Newcastle fans don't necessarily 'think they should be higher up the league than they are', they just hope / wish that those in the shirt graft and give 100%. Which invariably they don't. The ultimate frustration is that if they did give 100%, they would find themselves in a better league position!

Leeds are already significantly weakened with the loss of Aiton for the rest of his Leeds career (on top of long term season ending injuries for Sutcliffe and JJB.[u After Sneyd's crocodile roll it also looked like we could have lost McGuire).[/u
We certainly couldn't afford to lose another key player without it more than levelling the playing field.
Similarly if Wigan lost MM or Williams (etc?) .......it's all ifs and buts at this stage. Leeds could easily yet repeat the 2005 season

| Wigan may win games with their style of pushing the game to the very edge and bend rules and slow the game down. But is it good for Rugby League. I doubt it, the public want to see fast flowing rugby. To use the football argument Wigan's style is the long ball game of the 80's which put English football in a blind alley

| You have to congratulate Wane, not berate him. He’s taken a bunch of mid-table players (with a couple of exceptions) to winning trophies and who currently sit second in the league. There is no doubting his record since he’s been at the helm, but to achieve what could be considered as a remarkable feat must take some considerable skill.
He has coached his side to play a very specific and effective style of football that, more often than not, wins those games.
The problem being that it is the most tedious, boring, mundane spectacle to watch on God’s earth. It’s a trade-off. If you want success from a bunch of mid-table players then you have to play in this most excruciating style.
Maybe we’re just spoilt? We get to watch, on the whole (last year’s CC final excluded) a very expansive and improvised style of play week in, week out. We can play this way because we have a very unique, eclectic bunch of players who know each other intimately and can therefore pre-empt what each other will do. Leeds play an ‘off-the-cuff’ brand of football which is not only extremely effective but also extremely entertaining.
With a different set of players we would struggle playing the way we do. If we tried to play with an improvised style whilst having a squad with the talents of… say… Wigan, we would now be playing ‘Middle 8’ rugby.
Question is… do you want success or to be entertained? At Leeds we have both, at Wigan it’s a choice.

| Will be interesting to see the mood on the Wigan board towards him if they don't win the GF. With the cup out of the question and LLS looking slim now it could be two trophy less seasons for Wane in a row. Given in 2012 he did manage the LLS but fell at the semi final hurdle in both main prizes then failure to land the big one this year could mean failure in 3 of the 4 seasons in charge.
So would he be considered to be delivering enough if they end this year empty handed?

I wouldn't be fabbergasted to see Sheens jump ship in their direction when Marwan has finish with him,or T Smith for that matter.

| Wane will get at least one more year i reckon even if they bomb out in the play offs.
I think the big thing will be how Tomkins blends back into this Wane side that is a level below the 2013 double winners (which was by no means great either imo). if they fail next year and Sam is not SL's star turn as he was before then he will be gone.
