| What's Olpherts done wrong?
The short kick offs have killed us. Hopefully Smith will get the point and drop this tactic permanently.
Cam Smith looked a bit sluggish before he went off. We seemed to pick up when O'Connor game on.
It was disappointing that Miller was burned for pace by a championship winger (well, he gave up).
Hopefully we see a better attitude in the second half.

| Wouldn't say Miller was dreadful. He created our only try, and looks pretty lively. Yes, the kicks were poor!

| Miller had a poor half. Chucking out an offload, giving up on the chase, gifting possession the short kos and the intercept pass.

| I’m hoping Millers is just a case of trying too hard. You can see the skill is there.
Olpherts had an awful missed tackle in the build up to their first and was lucky not to concede a try when numbered up 3 v3 and he comes in rather than staying on his man. Thankfully Walmsley dropped it.

| Miller looks very good joining the line as expected. What the highlights reels never tell you is how good players are with their consistency and with their D. Time will tell but he definitely has skill.

| Littlewood I think.
I was right about O’Connor to 13 and Johnson to 9… I still hope Johnson makes it at Leeds he was very very good at junior grade.

| Ackers rightly MoM but I thought Frawley had a few nice touches and pushed him close. O'Connor and Goudemand solid too. Sinfield looking a lot more assured ball in hand.
Olpherts scored a nice second try. If that doesn't put him in the shop window he could still be decent back up for us if he builds confidence.

| I know not everyone follows academy but some will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the players coming through.
We are very strong in the back line; not too sure about forwards still but there are one or two standouts there too (Presley etc).

| Actually thought Frawley was pretty good. He is smart and didn’t overplay in the conditions.
Sinfield needs to improve his D, no problem with him going forward but he has to be able to position and tackle better.

| Night and day difference from 1st to 2nd half...coinciding with ditching the gimmicks, shortcuts and going wide way too early and introducing good defence, discipline and running straight and hard early before going wide. Hopfully thats Rohans itch scratched for the season...because the proof could not be more overwhelming.
Enjoyed the 2nd half, good to see some of the young lads, especially Liitlewood, mentioned him last season as, along with Corbett, the only forwards i liked from last years academy team. Thought he played well, got a great frame for putting plenty of size on..he's extremely fast aswel.

Thought Frawley looked exactly what we need. Very smooth distribution and looks to have a good temperament. Agree Ackers was MOM. Miller came up with some mistakes, but also two assists. They need to work hard at fitting his undoubtedly ability into the structure. Sinfield is really beginning to develop and was great to see Fergus McCormack come on and do well.

| Enjoyed that , well the second half!
There were some very promising signs IMO
Miller i think was trying too hard but when he settled down he showed some lovely touches.
Frawley looks like a good pick up, very composed.
Goudemand really impressed me.
Ackers was al class.
Biggest takeaway though is tvst we have some very impressive young players coming through!

| My big thing with the young lads is that they look like natural players Lumb Mcormack, Smith and Littlewood all looked like natural players.
Frawley for all his detractors looked like exactly what we need.
Agree on Jack as well, improving all the time but defensively not quite there yet. Probably would benefit from a loan.

| At least we won this year! It will take a bit of time with integrating new faces. For me I want to see signs of a clear coaching structure and a way of playing coming through in pre-season. No more gimmicks just well organised Rugby and if we make a few mistakes on the way that's fine as that's what pre-season is for building confidence relationships and patterns of play.

| As usual, no interest in the Boxing Day game, but I did watch the post match presser and I'm pleased to see Smith praising the way the preseason games have flowed/been refereed. After his rightful complaints last year I'm hoping for less wrestle and messing about at the PTB this season, a nice last hurrah before the tackle height change kills off the game.

| Think Ackers gives us a couple of things we've been lacking. Sinfield beginning to look assured, he's made a ton of progress in a short time. Cam Smith looked far better trying to do less with the ball and more in the way of spotting weaknesses to run at. Bit of fizz throughout when shifting the ball second half.
Take liberties and a decent championship side will do what lots of sides did to us last year.
Mix of good and bad really, much as you'd expect pre season..

| More impressed with the youngsters yesterday. Like the look of Nicholson-Watton and the McCormack's look natural rugby players.
McDonnell was strong again. Very concerning with Gannon.
Who came on at full back for Miller?
Miller looked unfit and a little slow yesterday which was a little concerning. Hopefully, that is sorted before the season begins.

| I don’t think Miller is as quick as some think - he’s steppy and quick off the mark but I’m not sure he has outright pace.
I did really like him Webb-ing up into the line though; once he gets acclimatised he’ll do well for us in attack.
I actually think Momirovski could be the under-the-radar signing this season, he is oretty quick and played first grade NRL most of career.
I really do like the McCormack brothers - Fergus looks like our next 6. Jack Smith has a little Joel Moon about him, rangy centre and he’s still behind Max Simpson.
Think we’ll go okay this year; need some luck with injuries. Can see Hudson breaking into the team on the bench.

Miller doesn't have French/Field type length of the pitch type pace. That was evident from the games I've watched in the NRL. What he does have is explosive speed of the mark and the ability to maintain it when changing direction. He'll do fine when he settles into the system. The challenge for Smith is to create that system. So much pressure on Smith at the start of the season. If I were him I'd be canning the "play what you see" stuff when it comes to short kick offs and dropouts. Whether it works or not, it makes us look mentally soft. Best saved for real moments of desperation.
