Spot on. The first GB test series in 12 years, first GB tour in what? 23 years?
The 9’s is minuscule in importance by comparison.

| Great to see a 7,000 attendance yesterday, probably including many first time visitors to Headingley. I expected about 1,000 to be honest. Richardson went ok, might improve Cas next season.Leeds lads were ok,although I don't really see what Cam Smith brings. Oh and can we have the steel band at every game next season and get rid of the moron with the lone drum

Lions Suffer Defeat In Tour Opener Against Tonga
Nothing sets the pulse of a rugby league fan racing like a Great Britain Lions Tour down under, and after a twelve year absence the Lions opened their four match odyssey with a visit to the FMG Stadium Waikato in Hamilton City, New Zealand, to take on a Tongan Invitational XIII.
There was only one survivor in the GB squad from the side which whitewashed New Zealand in 2007, the skipper James Graham who had been a substitute in Tony Smith’s side in all three matches during the last UK test series.
There was a strong and passionate Tongan support in Hamilton for the game (despite the recent issues and some requests for Tongan supporters to stay away), a good contingent of tourist supporters who had made the long trip, and plenty of neutrals who were getting a look at the Lions side ahead of the two match series against New Zealand.

| We're so pedestrian. In Hodgson and Widdop we have two pivots who don't commit defenders, and in Hodgson's case, cannot pass directly from the floor. When he have two pivots who don't do that, then it doesn't matter whose in your backline. Coote is the same, but with the added disadvantage of being a terrible defender.
Graham also looks done, and the pack lacked any dynamism without Sam Burgess. Watts and Clark should've been in the 17.

| Tonga is my favourite side to watch, brilliant approach to the game.
As for GB; probably not all doom and gloom but we look past our best. Not a fan of Hardaker in the centres, he needs to play FB. If we’re giving away size and power, we need to be better with skill, control and aerobic fitness - couldn’t quite manage it.

| Widdopp too often plays like a slightly better version of Ben Walker - lots of passes and involvement that adds to nothing. Lomax looked better than anyone else.

| He needs to straighten up his game and commit defenders. Lomax was direct and caused Tonga problems as a result. The whole game plan was too conservative and our 1-5 pretty ordinary as well.

| We looked out of form and out of ideas. We struggled to hold their intensity and as a result played under pressure for much of the game. Our pack couldn’t really get us on the front foot, and our halves didn’t create anything of note.
We look slow as a team, and with Gildart being injured, it’s likely WB will move Bateman to Centre and then we probably look slower still.
Tonga are a great team to watch, they have some outstanding players, and no real weak link. The passion they play with in fantastic to watch.

| We were battered today by Tonga and didn't try to move there big pack around to tire them and then play round them, apparently Both Thompson and Gildarts tours are done which isn't go for us think Bennett could have gone with a more balanced squad were too light in the pack with the likes of S.Burgess and Watts not in our squad and then our backs aren't exactly the quickest think Bennett will go for this 17 .
Lomax
Mcgillvary
Hardaker
Connor
Hall
Widdop
Hastings
Hill
Hodgson
Graham
Bateman
Whitehead
Jones
Subs
Austin
Burgess
Walmsley
Clark
Can only see GB winning the PNG and I'm not that confident over that, NZ were poor against Aussies this week but they'll be good enough to beat us.

| 1. Hardaker (Not a Centre and Coote is awful)
2. McGilvery (Went well)
3. Connor (Replaces Hardaker)
4. Gildart (Hopefully fit, he went well)
5. Hall (Was poor but we don’t have a back up)
6. Lomax (Definite starter for me, Widdop was poor)
7. Unsure here Maybe Hastings but tempted with Williams
8. Burgess (Went well, Hill is poor and stole Watts place)
9. Hodgson (Played off a beaten pack)
10. Walmsley/Thompson Fitness depends Both went well
11. Bateman (Best Second Rower for a reason, Class)
12. Whitehead (One below Bateman, 2nd Best)
13. Graham (Our Captain, always gives 100%)
14. Clark (Adds speed and a new dimension)
15. Thompson/Walmsley (Other starts)
16. Josh Jones (Went well, I thought personally)
17. Joe Philbin ( I like his energy and non preservation)
Watts and Percival and missing here!

| I don't understand how Chris hill makes the GB squad it's bad enough he steals a wage at Harrington he is an embarrassment to rugby league.
There were and is question Mark's over other players certainly the wingers but as people say there is no cover. Coote was s flop at fullback and once Lomax came on things improved and I think he should stay at next week. I would also question widdops placd as he did his usual and turned everything back to his inside instead of looking out wide.
Just to sum up the GB team was as good as an average super league side if this is the best we can find then times are worrying g for the future of this great sport. I'm sure New Zealand will be looking frwrd to hammering us over the next two weeks.

| Lolohea should have been M.O.M was the top half back in the game.He moved his team around the field and his kicking game was excellent. Also liked how Watson went up to congratulate him after the game.Looks like he is really popular at Salford.

Scott Murrell would have murdered GB too behind that pack

| Yep, that's a problem for the forwards who play in England. The likes of Walmsley and Hill typically face one or two players who can hit like that and make hay against the rest. Facing a full pack must come as quite a shock to their systems.

| That game epitomised everything wrong with our current competition. The fact we have just had the lowest quality super league season ever, shone through in that GB performance also. We have took a big step backwards.

One up e. Ooh but what do we do if the opposition don't miss tackles? Clueless rubbish. I lost count of the times our half backs got the ball wide then came back inside to take a tackle themselves. It was liking watching mini rugby where the kids always run back in the direction they received the pass from. Did Ryan Hall actually receive a pass on the wing? We played the entire game in the middle third of the pitch. We have neither the skill or the power to create space out wide and then use it. SL is so inconsistent that basically the team that turns up and completes some sets wins. You see some games with 50% completion rates so all you have to do is hold the ball and eventually crash over from 5 yards out to score.

Half the side are NRL players! Nothing to do with SL. The best players for GB were all in SL last year (Bateman aside). Graham, Hodgson, Burgess all poor.
That for me was down to the coach - wrong side picked, tactically inept and dated.
