| Jamie Shaul could think himself slightly unlucky to not make the squad in terms of the FB position.

Well spotted.
I'd no idea he was born in Australia.
London accent suggests he moved to the UK a while ago.
That makes him an immigrant.
Kick him out!
No Regards.

Seen a few not happy about this on twitter because Ward plays for Leeds and we had a bad year. One or two thought Matty Ashurst should have been given a go

I saw on the VT and the Wakey board that it's mostly Wakefield fans with their small town chips on their shoulders. Only issue with the squad they have is that they're 3 Leeds players in and Leeds have had a poor season......not hearing any moans about the Burgess boys from South Sydney or McGillivery from Hudds mind you.

| Ward will have been a stand by chosen by Bennett so it's natural he steps in if that's the case.
Good for him but doubtful he will get a place in the 17 barring a few injuries. He will be a fixture over the coming years though i'm sure and that is probably why Bennett has brought him in for the experience.

Spot on, whilst we want to win this 4 Nations their also has to be some thought about years ahead especially with the World Cup next year with regards to the squad and that's where Ward comes in as a much stronger candidate to be a regular in future years.
In a way I hope Ward isn't picked/needed for the matches against NZ and Australia and he wouldn't be ready to be facing that level of competition at his point in his comeback, but if he can feature against France in the warmup match (depending if the likes of Bateman & Farrell are given more rest post GF) and maybe even Scotland then that's a good experience for him.

Whereas I was regularly critical of Watkins this season, because he wasn't at the races for the majority of the season, he did come into form towards the end and this did include performances against top of the table Hull and Wigan. I think that his problem is a mental one becasuse when his attitude is positive he had all the skills to be world class. So as the form centre he has to make the team otherwise it means playing a second row type player with no foot or hand skills.

While that may well be true, but Watkins had started to look sharper and faster too. But you could also claim it coincided with Hardaker leaving the dressing room and taking his negativity with him.

Watkins is very frustrating because you can clearly see the guy has everything to set him apart from almost all in his position worldwide, yet he can go missing for not just spells in games but weeks in seasons.
I do think he will be extra motivated to do well though for England in the upcoming games, i hope he does.

Lomax

Watkins
Percival
Hall

Graham (c)
Hodgson
T Burgess
Farrell

Ward
G Burgess

Though to be fair any combination of that 19 should be good enough to beat the French.

Its not really about beating the French, it is more about getting your combinations sorted, thats why I don't understand resting a couple from the GF as he seems to have done with Hill and Bateman.
The only change I would make to the 17 you said would be putting Ward in over Farrell. Ward and Watkins had a good combination on the right for us last year and imo Farrel isn't physically strong enough when playing against NZ or Aus especially playing next to percival so we are better off with Whitehead on that side.

England Victorious in French FriendlyEngland travelled to the Parc-des-Sports in Avignon for a, pre-four nations, warm up game, the first under the custodianship of Wayne Bennett. Bennett gave five players their England debuts to herald the start of a new era; St Helens' Mark Percival and Jonny Lomax, Hull FC's Scott Taylor, Castleford's Luke Gale, and Stefan Ratchford of Warrington. Stevie Ward missed out on the seventeen after being a late addition to the squad.
This was an important build-up game ahead of the four nations with Australia, New Zealand and Scotland which gets underway next weekend and expectations were high for a big England win against a France side which was essentially the Catalans Dragons.

Snap.
Should be Farrell to have a genuine 2nd row option on the bench.

That team is absolutely huge!
Its pretty risky, if the forward have the engine for it we could smash the kiwis off the park, but if they don't then Shaun Johnson will have a field day running through the middle
