That may be the case, but its a daft approach if you ask me. In a salary capped competition, the best way you differentiate your squad with others of supposedly equal ability is to have good off field staff. A club serious about competing for honours should employ the best coach they can attract.

If you were picking the current Leeds side "on merit" you'd struggle to put a full 17 out each week...

True but when some players have been showing a bit of form they have been dropped without any obvious reason other than they need a rest!

I gather we aren't picking the coaching staff on merit then?

Ben Jones-Bishop has started 4 games at full-back in 1st grade matches for Leeds. (I suspect those stats you've found are limited to SL Regular Rounds only.)
Sorry but I can't verify whether he's also moved into the position 3 times during a match or not.

You could equally ask for evidence that McDermott and Lowes are good at their jobs - consecutive league placings, win/loss records, declining in-match performances from players - doesn't stack up well.

They carry ultimate responsbility, like it or not.
Of course, many of the Leeds players now misisng tackles and making handling errors players were the best in the business under different coaches.
I'd have more sympathy with McDermott had it not been for the regression Harelquins went through under him (and Lowes when he was a head coach at other clubs).
When will poor Brian be given a great set of players to work with eh? Maybe, just maybe, one of these days at one club he could [iimprove[/i the skills of the players under his tutilige like, you know, decent coaches do.

| Webb was our most threatening weapon last week. Age has nothing to do with it. He is light years ahead of BJB at this stage and until that can be overturned he fully justifies his contract.
Why do we have this insistance about playing unproven injury prone young kids?

| Fair enough......IF he is there as extra cover for FB and Half back for 2012.
BJB has waited long enough and should be first choice at FB ....Hardaker should be first choice at SO (McGuire to SH).

It also opens up the Watkins/BJB combo for next year, which earlier in the year worked a treat. So not all bad news.

Thought most were in agreement Watkins was more equipped for the LEFT centre role.? .....Or are you suggesting BJB accompany him on the LEFT wing ? Hall to the RIGHT ?

| good signing by GH. If we were to lose Webb & Senior then any loss of any player in the three quarters would leave us grasping into the academy for cover.

| Agreed. It'd be nice to see BJB and co take over and kick on, but if Senior goes we have very little cover for next season. Add to that I'd say THIS year is the time to give BJB, Watkins and Hardaker every chance, certainly in regular SL games. No point in not TBH.

| Interesting that this announcement comes on the same day that Bradford announce the release of Dave Halley from the remainder of his contract and that he's off to Keighley until the end of the season to recover his match fitness after a long lay-off.
Still only 24, plenty of experience under his belt and capable of playing either at full-back or on the wing.
I can't understand for the life of me why he's not had a crack ahead of the likes of Royston and Crookes at Bradford, but might he have provided a more cost effective solution than retaining Webb?

Maybe just to the fact that he's a huge gamble in terms of game time.
IIRC an impressive 2008 season, followed by a write-off 2009, then an awful 2010 season, and hasn't played this year I don't think so another write-off.
Yeah, get him signed up. That's a no-brainer

He'd be cheaper than Webb for sure but there's a very good reason for that.
Dear me Andy, the kid is hopeless.

Your opinion, and you're entitled to it.
I happen to think there's still a good player in there if he can get fit and stay fit. He'll be back in SL in 2012 IMO.

This is a terrible call. Halley can run fast and has plenty of enthusiasm, but other than that has little ability. Can't break tackles and more error prone than Michael Platt was at the height of his brain explosion period. There's a reason he's being shipped out to Keighley. If Leeds bring this guy in we might as well be looking to bring Worrincy and Sheriffe back to SL as well. If you don't believe me read the equivalent thread on the Bulls board.

I dont remember this been agreed accross the board. Fair play you have banged on about it long enough but i don't think its nailed on.
In this seasson when he would have got more chances than ever, he is yet again injured. Some of these kids are just injury prone.
Personally if our future is built totally around Watkins and BJB i am a little worried.
