dangerous on a bike was New Bank Street. I was on Croft House Rise. knew a few folk on NBS. Yeah the rock has gone down hill, ashamed to say i know too many of them that make it that way. The Royal used to be good but thats now Last orders and its rubbish. Only bar in recent times ive thought is any cop is the bar at the hotal gym thing up the top end of town towards tingley. not expensive and a decent pint. apart from that i avoid morley like the plague. Needless isnt too bad, but thats on the morley/batley divide

A bit cliquey in there (golf club set) though it did shut down and re-open and I haven't been in since it did. Food used to be good value.

Food is still good. although the prices have gone up. The decking out the back is nice on a summer's night though.

The pubs I like serve beer.
The pubs I don't like serve ersatz lager.

Most of the recommendations so far have been of the latter variety.

Hence, I'm not going to encourage lager drinkers into the pubs I like, creating spurious demand for shoite and thereby spoiling them.

I grew up on the estate behind it (Well, got bigger. I've never really grown up).

For a while in the late 80's early 90's my sister was a barmaid there. It was a cracking little boozer. New Years 1989/90 in there was one of the funnest times I've ever spent.

Sadly, in the mid 90's the Queens rugby team started frequenting it. It became dangerous for anyone but locals (and dodgy locals at that) to venture past it's doors. Within a few years, the police had had enough and refused to give them a licence. It's now been converted into student flats.

Anywhere with bitter will do me. Although I wouldn’t have a drink of bitter from inside Headingley Stadium ever again on matchday!

aye you get a few but i know a couple of lads that live just down so it doesnt bother us. food is better now i'd say. glad it reopened though as like emma said, on a summer evening there is nowt better than been on the decking looking out to howden clough

Box, Arc, Taps and Oak are my favourite places when I head back home.

Box do a decent pizza deal that can come in handy before Friday night games but Arcadia followed by the Taps has the better beer near to the ground.

It's a pity they don't do those before 5pm, I'm always there for dinner.

I was around mid 80's and it did have a bit of a rep then. Queens guys were always in there in the tap room usually, but I hardly ever saw any trouble. We started going down there with several of the Leeds Uni League team who we were mates with (who knew several Queens players) and just got known. Plenty of students wouldn't go anywhere near it though. I didn't think it was possible but they actually managed to serve a good pint of Stones. The day we all graduated we all went down there with our Mum's and Dad's at lunchtime, suits, gowns the lot - happy memories.
I heard it officially changed it's name to the Little Park (from The Park) after I moved away, and I had heard that it was no longer in existance. Shame.

Needless, as mentioned before, is a bit cliquey for my liking. Also, due to the golf club connection, one of my best mates refuses to go in.

The Royal I used to frequent very regularly on a Friday/Saturday night, as did most of Morley, and from there it was often into The Brunswick, when that was open and before they opened up the pool room and it went downhill.

As for the people going into The Rock, I think I know a few of them too. What sort of age group are we looking at here? I left school in the late '80's and some of them were at school with me.

We went most friday evenings last summer, as Emma said the back is great when its sunny, some off the the staff are very ignorant to non clique members but others are fine.

Will have to frequent this summer then.

Ah forgot the Brunswick. The youth club. used to go in when I was 17. rough as knackers as was the nelson but i know most of the lads in the Nelly. The kids from the Rock i know will have left in 2000 and beyond. You might know Simon Burnley? Known him for years. he is a regular

Every time you mention a pub it's one I know! Nelson's about 50 yards from my current abode. I don't go in often, usually just after LUFC games, but it's a much changed place from the one I remember. It used to be full of kids, but whenever I've been in on a Saturday recently it's been packed, and not with football fans. I think it gets quite a bit of trade from the new part of the Springfield estate.

The Brunswick - back in the late 80's/early 90's it used to be a cracking little pub, but then they opened up the pool room, the beer went downhill and that was the beginning of the end. It's last days were awful, an absolutely disgusting place.

As for Simon Burnley, the name doesn't ring a bell, but I'd hazard a guess I'd know the face. One guy who I do know from the Rock is Jason Thompson, who I was at school with and is now my window cleaner.
