Astute BB. I was not able to make it and had to rely on radio commentary, Hence I have tried to refrain from making specific comments on this game but have posted regarding the performance over the season so far.

Missing this game however does not mean my points are invalid as they are not based on any games I may have missed live. Also I didn't need to have been at the game to know that Bailey was sent off for violence.

You may dislike stats and I fully agree that they do not tell the whole story. But neither can you dismiss stats as they often tell the truth whereas for example judgement based on a live presence at a game can still be coloured by our predjudices and sometime suspect eyesight!

The stats are the stats, however there is oceans of playing skills and graft they don't cover. So they are far from absolute.

I have never said they are absolute!

I use stats, like most posters, to back up my observations on match days because judgements made when viewing live are also far from absolute. You only have to look at the difference in opinions expressed on here as to whether Bailey was to blame for one or two of Hudderfields tries last Friday.

Indeed in the Hull KR game I hadn't spotted Bailey was to blame for one of their first half tries until I watched Boots-n-all!

If you compare the stats for the full season last year with those for what is about a third of the SL season gone, the per game figures are better for most areas of the game than last season with the following exceptions:

When you compare us this season with the other clubs we are the leading club for:
missed tackles
errors
missed goals.

We are near the bottom of the table for
kicks in general play
attacking kicks
runs from dummy half
clean breaks
40/20s
No of tackles made.
Marker tackles

On the plus side we are in
1st place for offloads
2nd place for the number of carries
3rd place for the most metres made.

The missed tackles and errors have hurt us badly so far and we need some work at marker and an improved kicking game.

Fix these and with some of the injured back and IMO we will see a turnaround in our fortunes.

Yep, completing tackles and not dropping the ball and we will look better.

Throw in a generous dose of structure in both attack and defence which are both completely missing at the moment, and we will start to look good. Of course the above will mean coaching the team (rather than playing with rubber gloves for example) which is a giant (no pun intended) leap from where we are at present.

While I am not one for stats they are quite telling in the above. Agree regarding improving tackling and getting a kicking game.

The stat that is quite miss leading that stands out to me is offloads. Yes we are 1st but they have been in the majority not in good positions etc..
I would be happier if we dropped in that department and showed some composure.

Technically awful. But he was ok against Huddersfield. Cross being ok, is probably being great for him.

Fair point. How they arrive at the missed tackles total is a mystery.

I have done a quick comparision with Bradford and Hull KR and we can breath a sigh of relief that we are not the worst for missed tackles. Leeds-194, Bradford-268, and Hull KR-266 So if your logic is correct re the bottom sides it is likely the others are also worse than us.

It seems to me that they should be mutually exclusive unless were are winning more repeat sets or something like that which I suspect isn't the case.

I dont know how many times he has been knocked out I think 2? but when taking the ball up he leads(or seems to) with his head.

You can just see how he got into rugby: fit, big, lad shifting steel around all day and he's probably thought 'I can do that', which to an extent he has done very well. Pro rugby player, state of origin experience, you can't argue with the facts of what people have achieved. So well done to him.

But he seems to have no natural ability, he looks confused on the field. He just has the brawn to get by. To get a player across (no pun itended) of his limited ability, age against him, with younger players like Ambler (who must be at least his equal) who bide their time and are home-grown are left to display their talents at another Super League club - just doesn't sit well with me. More quality control required.
