He got his fingers burnt by G.H before didn't he?...kicked upstairs then had to work with the Union arm of Leeds?. It is also said he has full control on rugby matters at Cas, could he really get that back at Headingley?.
I think there was a clue with an interview Powell did at the start of the season regarding the playing style in this country. In my opinion he will be the England coach & rugby development director of some sort in a few seasons.

| It's highly unlikely Powell would leave cas. It's taken a while to build this cas team he would be crazy to leave. Still as they say money talks so you never know. I think we all agree cas are a decent team, my one concern if I was a cas fan would be most of the creativity and flair comes from gale. If he is injured I think they may struggle against a top four team.

| Money does talk - that's why Powell will stay at Cas and Leeds will continue scraping the coaching barrel unless someone else is paying the wage ala Murray/Lance.

This. It's obvious Leeds won't/can't splash the cash at the moment. (money must be at least saved for GH to do his annual 'scouting' trip to Oz)

Absolutely, with the way the £ is at the moment, we need to make economies in the small things like recruitment and concentrate on that vital annual "Scouting trip"

Daryl is starting to see the rewards from his recruitment and his excellent coaching skills,He has been left to get on with his job and basically has a free role at our club unlike any coach that works at your club whereby you have to work with what you've got
Why would he wish to take over a once mighty club that has a squad that is in terminal decline and one that urgently needs rebuilding from the top shelf of the quality players list to get it back to the top when that club has very tight purse strings due to stadium redevelopment and won't be splashing the cash to catch up anytime soon?

And despite all that, I bet we still win more trophies than Cas over the next few years

| Excluding the Lazenby Cup, Bev Risman and the Middle 8's I'd expect Leeds, at best, to win the same as Castleford.
Castleford of the two look far more likely to be at least challenging for a major trophy. One thing is clear based on their last five meetings Leeds would need to avoid facing those from darn t'lane. Consecutive record defeats for Leeds - home and away to their neighbours.

Thing is i agree with all you say, i love the way Cas play the game it's a fantastic brand and the way i would like to see us play the game and i would guess most posters on here would agree with that.
My point is, as one of the biggest clubs in SL we should be in for the best coaches available and Powell is in that bracket right now. Now, i'm not for one minute saying he would come, he is obviously building something pretty good at Cas which has been on going as you say for a while but this is where GH imo needs to be saying come to Leeds, free reign and do this on a bigger and better scale than what Cas could ever achieve with their financial limitations.
Anyway, personally i don't think you have any cause for concern regards losing Powell this season at least, as there you look certain to be in the mix for all the trophies.

I'm as much McDermott Out as anyone but would rather have 10 more years of Brian Mc than having that ars3hole Maguire associated with our club.

| Nah, I'd still take the grubby tactician over McDermott in a heartbeat and bring Bailey back in as his assistant.

| If Tony Smith parts ways with Warrington what would peoples views be on a return to Headingley? Looking what is out there at the minute regards coaching options i don't think it would be a bad move, I mean, Smith has been at Wire 2 years longer than McDermott has spent with us so i don't think he has become a bad coach all of a sudden, just a similar case of he has run his race at that club. 8 years is a very long time at one club as a coach in RL.

I would certainly want Powell but it is extremely unlikely we get him this season at least but we should be trying imo.

He's failed to really rebuild Warrington post Briers, and has been given a war chest only Salford could probably match to do it. I'd be reluctant to have him back as I think we need a coach who can rebuild the team, and he's not shown he can really do that in the last 5 years at least.

Smith or McDermott? Smith in a heartbeat. When Smith took over Warrington from Lowes they were in a poor way, he made them competitive before the season was out, winning their first Challenge Cup in 35 years and has kept them up there ever since.
I don't expect he'll become available or that Leeds would go there even if he did.
