The worst one for that was after Tomkins second try. He puts the ball down just to the side of the posts, but outside them. On the TV you can see Terry the Fish point to the spot as he awards the try. The kick is then taken bang in the middle of the sticks.

Not a big deal, but the refs do need to keep an eye on it.

Maybe Phil Bentham told Alibert he was wrong, despite the incident happening right in front of his eyes and him making a decision on it accordingly.

Isn't it the touch judges responsibility to mark the point of the try being scored and stand there until the kicker has taken the mark in line with the TJ before the TJ takes up his position behind the sticks?

That's how it used to operate on conversions at least. (Perhaps with the introduction of in-goal judges at the majority of games they've taken on the role (which would make sense) except obviously there are no in-goal judges at Sky games and that might create confusion amongst the officials.)

If Hull KR (Dobson) can bring their 'A' kicking game with them then they have a chance in a low scoring game to knick it.

I think you're right. HKR have some big guys up front who may be capable of edging the wigan pack. Dobson and Murrell seem on good for and are pretty smart footballers if it comes down to a percentage game.

HKR seem like they can be a team with a lot of guts when it counts, which makes them a real banana skin in the play offs.

The referee originally marks the point of the try, I think. That's why he points to the spot when awarding the try. I suspect that after that it's the TJ's responsibility to ensure the kicker lines it up from the correct place, as per your comments.

However Wigan did not 'choose' that fixture. I cant see why Saints would pick a 50/50 fixture against their biggest rivals.

I personally would not want to play Warrington - they have too much fire power and on the day can destroy anyone. With no half backs cannot see Saints turning them over again. Matty Smith will not play that well again, there is a reason he has signed for Salford!!!

In past few years, this is the fixture where Wigan have come un-stuck.

So there will be a lot of pressure on them to get it right.

And in the 2 biggest games we have played against them this year (CC and playoffs) Leeds have come away with the win.

So Wigan will see this as a big nut to crack.

In 1998 (the last time we played Wigan twice in the playoffs in one season, we did the League double over Wigan but lost both playoff games (one at Wigan and the other at Old Trafford). Would be nice if this year was the reverse situation.
