His return to Leeds in 2004 was budgeted for and it had nothing to do with the amount Bradford foolishly decided to pay him.

FWIW, I'm glad he didn't return to Leeds in 2004 as I've stated all along on this forum but he was instrumental (along with Morley) in Bradford winning the Championship in 2005 from third though.

He didn't do too badly at Leeds considering he never wanted to go there in the first place.

I won't be applauding him. He had a choice about the way he handled things. For instance milking the crowd's applause at Franny's testimonial game when he knew he'd already signed for Bradford. My son got his autograph that night and was devasted when he didn't come back. Explaining that grown ups lie and don't keep their promises ain't pleasant.

If he'd been honest about it all I'd respect him for what be achieved at Leeds but I can't respect someone who behaved like he did

so why did,nt he sign for the smaller club then?

According to Peacocks autobiography he would have never come to Leeds and signed a new deal had Harris not arrived at Bulls!

Harris from when he joined us from the Wire was world class and he won so many games for us, he is an all time great. However it is hard to forget what he did in 2004 going to Northern breaking an agreement and some of the stuff he said about Leeds was bad. But there again at the end of the 2004 GF who can forget the song at the end. Harris whats the score.

But it is time to forget, in the long term he has badly damaged Northern and remember what a player he was for the Blue and Amber

I wouldn't boo him but I wouldn't applaud him either. I don't regard him as an all-time great at Leeds and would be nowhere near my all time Leeds team - John Holmes was a far superior stand off for one.

Off the pitch, he broke two contracts with Leeds: one to leave to go to Union, the other by going to Bradford when he returned (I wasn't bothered from a playing point of view but we should have been able to get a transfer fee).

On the pitch, he was very good for Leeds for about two years - 1998 and most of 1999 when he started games at full back and moved up to stand off after 55/60 minutes. Besides that, he and the team were good in fits and starts only and, ultimately, disappointing. I don't think he lived up to the hype and transfer fee he had.

Are they all walking out on Friday? Would be good to see Godden, Glanville and such like. Iestyn is the best player I have ever seen play for Leeds. Full stop. That didn't stop me booeing him in his Bradford shirt tho!

I was more bothered about celebrating our first title in my lifetime than gloating to Harris. Was a great player for us and provided me with so many of my favourite Leeds memories that over ride how he left so I for one will be applauding.

The fact that he signed that final Leeds contract earned Leeds significant compensation as he was about to walk away for free. It is reported that GH persuaded him to sign that, have 1 more year and then we would let him go.

Had Iestyn simply honoured his contract and left we'd have received no fee and had no claims upon him when he returned.

The "fall out", I would conject (is conject a word?) was because iestyn felt we hadn't done right by him when we eventually played hard ball before releasing him. Had Iestyn listened to his advisers he'd have never signed that last Leeds deal, walked to union for free, signed for the Bulls without restraint and you'd have had no justifiable complaints.



"very good"? He was inspirational. He was superb. He was man of steel. He was a great captain and a record points scorer. The team may have been good in fits and starts in 2000 and 2001 but Iestyn was always a cut above,

He was certainly value for the fee if not for his exploits but for the compensation we received twice over when he took his services elsewhere.

I think Iestyn needs to get some better advisers. As over the years he has made some very suspect decisions about hs career.

Nobody put a gun against his head to sign the contract, once he had done why did he break it. Finally why did he then slag Leeds off when he went to Northern saying he had gone to a better club etc. All these things that are really going to make things better.

I wonder if he had his time again, would go to Union where he hardly set the world on fire or go to to Bradford. If he had stayed with us he would have been seen as what he was one of the greatest players to play for the Blue and Amber.

That's the way I saw it. He signed the contract extension that gifted the club the transfer fee when he went to Union. I think if anyone should hold a grudge it would be Wire fans, but even then they got paid the transfer see by Leeds.

One of the finest players to grace the field in the SL era - the way he ghosted past players was simply mind blowing - a truly gifted individual.

To say it was a pleasure to watch him play is an under statement - it was a privilige.

On another point he makes an excellent summarisor on the Sky - a coach in the making if ever there was one.
