In fairness, and without meaning to nit-pick too much, I don't think those shortlisting for the award are asked to nominate only players they perceive to be Greats of the Game. I am aware that I am sounding a bit negative here, and to an extent it's because I'm playing devil's advocate a bit, but I am wary of using responses to one question to answer a different question.

He clearly stated it'd take more than a bunch of "leeds fans" for him to be considered a great.
I have proved that he is clearly "highly rated" and considered a great player with the above award/nomination.
Surely if he's considerd a great player then he's on his way to being considered a great of the game by more than just his "home" crowd!

It demonstrated that recognition for Sinfield's talent comes from a world wide audience and not just Leeds fans.
Thus he rebutted the point that person on my ignore list was trying to make.

Fair enough. Just wanted to clarify the point, I don't really believe it's only Leeds fans who rate him. In fact he seems to attract enough vitriol from fans of other clubs to suggest he's doing something right.

Can you explain how this logic would apply to Schofield? He attracts approbrium from fans of other clubs, but not nearly as much as from those of Leeds and Hull

| Schofield was a Leeds great but always found himself in a team of individuals.
RL is a team sport and as such using team results (be it Championships or Ashes success) proves something but falls a way short of the whole story. That goes for all players in all eras.

Only if you consider all Golden boot nominees/best in their position as 'greats of the game'. This simply isn't the case as I've stated previously. Had he been nominated for the Hall Of Fame, then this would indeed be a valid response.
Just for the record recent Golden Boot nominees/Best in their position include Manu Vatavei and Roy Asotasi. No-one considers their nominations as reasons to be considered 'greats of the game' and rightly so.

when taken as a single measure. Sinfield's nomination is the latest in a string of team, and personal honours, on both domestic and international stage.
I'm still not convinced he has reached 'great of the game' status yet though

Again, you're making the assumption that his greatness is based "solely" on the golden boot nomination, which it isn't.

| Quote ="G1"He has played in a series win for his country. I don't think Henley ever did, though I stand to be corrected. Thus I don't think results achieved at international level are an accurate barometer for British players, given the antipodean era of dominance.
IU do not intend to discuss the issue any further with you because you have a clear agenda. I do not accept your proposition that Sinfield has only played well in the last "game and a half" and therefore there's no further basis for discussion.
If his international career has been such a failure to this point (it hasn't) ask yourself why every international coach since 2000 has continually selected him?
You should read JJB's interview with him in this months RLWorld magazine which explains that for the first time at international level he's been asked to run the show like he does at Leeds with the same results. Previously, he was not given this role because of the presence of Farrell and Sculthorpe etc. Now they're gone he can be the pivot (from 6, 13 or 9) and we're seeing the results.'"
Spot on. Sinfield has never let GB/England down and I seem to remember another MOM performance when he came on at standoff and turned the game around against NZ (?) a couple of years ago. As stated by G1's quote from JJB, previously the international game plans never allowed him to fully show his organalisation skills until the other week.

Against France IIRC.
Nicely summed up in the BBC Sport blog by Justin Morgan, when discussing the switch of Sinfield to hooker.
"It meant that one of the craftiest players in the country was playing in one of the craftiest positions in the game."

Your quotes are for the 2007 nomination. This years are as follows:
Sinfield display earns Golden Boot nomination
"FIVE players who will play in Saturday's Four Nations final between England and Australia are on the shortlist to win the coveted Golden Boot, which is awarded annually to the world's greatest Rugby League player by 'Rugby League World' magazine.
Leeds Rhinos skipper Kevin Sinfield may be a surprise selection in some eyes, but his outstanding performance for England in their 20-12 victory against New Zealand on Saturday night, following his influential display against Australia the previous week, confirmed his nomination.
Sinfield has enjoyed a memorable autumn. Not only did he become the first captain to win four Super League Grand Finals, but he also won the Harry Sunderland award as the Old Trafford man of the match as his side dispatched St Helens for the third year in a row. He scored 253 Super League points for the Rhinos in 2009.
The other five players with a chance of winning the award are Australia's Greg Inglis, Billy Slater and Cameron Smith, England's Gareth Ellis and New Zealand's Fuifui Moimoi. Moimoi is the only nominee who won't be able to press his claim in this Saturday's final.
Slater and Smith are the last two winners of the award and, along with Inglis, tasted Grand Final glory with Melbourne this year and State-of-Origin success with Queensland for the fourth year in a row."

Yeah I know. It was in response to a question about whether Roy Asotasi or Manu Vatevei had ever been nominated for the Golden boot or were just named as best players in their position.
