| One of the biggest complaints about the weekend has been the lack of atmosphere in the ground , perhaps the rfl should be looking at grounds with smaller capacitys than the national stadiums used at present , problem then could be lack of special event feel though ?

Hense why i said COM stadium, ST James's or Anfield... all easily fillable imo... I think it will go to Newcastle though.. for Gateshead's sake... the timing for the next lot of SL licenses too.

| I think Dublin have put a bid in aswell, not sure about that one. A lot harder to get to than Cardiff or Murrayfield.

I understand and take your point , I just genuinely wonder how attractive a weekend in Manchester or Newcastle etc really is ?

| Over the weekend I first thought Old Trafford but then roughly 3.75 seconds later I realised what a stupid idea that was because it takes the ''glitz and glamour'' out of going there for the GF. So then I thought of the City of Manchester. The only way that there is ever going to be a huge crowd at a Magic Weekend is by staging it in Yorkshire/Lancashire or within 50 miles or so of most clubs. If it was to be held at the City of Manchester stadium then I guess that tickets would become scarce. With a capacity of only 48 000 and being very close for a lot of fans, tickets will be snapped up.
Maybe 2011 and 2012 would be a perfect time for the RFL to hold the Magic Weekend at a venue 'closer to home' with people being less willing to spend etc...
Forgetting this though, Stade de France, Croke Park and St Jame's Park would all make great locations for it. Cracking atmosphere's around each city i'd guess.
Sorry if I've repeated anything... I didn't read all the posts

My thoughts exactly... City of Manchester Stadium would be a great venue, as would St James's Park.

| I thought the idea of these events was to promote the game having it in the heartlands would be pointless in imo.

Ground fits the bill (48'000, based on attendances this weekend, would be fine), just outside the city centre, easily accessed.. would look better on tv rather than a big half empty international stadium

Northern City so attendance would be a lot greater.
Leeds doesn't have a large enough stadium, neither does Hull, Bradford and it'd never be held in these three places for obvious reasons.
Only other northern possibilities would be Liverpool and Newcastle. Newcastle is still quite far for many fans and Liverpool is worse than Manchester.

| Just a thought, but if anyone was thinking of London, few people have mentioned Wembley on forums, but that would take away the interest in the Challenge Cup Final imo. how about Arsenals Emirites stadium, or Twickers.

Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't try and get it at the Emirates TBH, great stadium and great pitch. Obviously, it'd need to be moved until the end of the football season as I can't imagine Arsenal wanting 7 rugby games played on their pitch at the vital stage of the season.

And whoever suggests London well is about all I can say on that one!! As well as promoting the game in a new area (which London isn't really) one of the fantastic things about the weekend is the way the fans can all mix together in and around the City Centre before during and after the games - if we took the event to London people would be so spread out across the whole City that you would lose this whole aspect of the event except perhaps in a pub near the ground just before kick off each day - the atmosphere of the whole weekend would be ruined if it went to London imo.

| I think Swindon would be great. It's about time RL made a push into the South West.
Nothing to do with it being near where I live or anything.

| I wouldn't mind seeing the magic weekend, if we must keep it going to somewhere like Dublin or even Spain? I have always had the feeling the reason for the magic weekends is to gauge the acceptance of rugby and whether fans will travel to these locations. based on that i suspect in a few years we'll have a team in SL from Scotland

That's definitely do for me. Coventry would be easier, but Birmingham would be fine.
