10 games seems harsh the only other recent punch up I can think of this year was Dezaria and Ellis earlier in the season and I think they both got 5 games?

Me too. It seems to me the point at which a legal argument will have the biggest impact is getting the initial grading reduced. I don’t know where in the process that happens. Is it before the Tuesday hearing? Newcastle got their player down to a grade E which then flows naturally into a 5 game ban.

Remember when Garbutt punched Tamou in the World Club Challenge against North Queensland? He got 2 games for that. I know it's 6 years ago but has the game really changed that much? The first Holroyd punch deserves a ban, there's no complaints there. But the others were thrown as players were going to punch him. Is he being punished for being a better fighter? The bans the league have dished out this season have lead to this. Because players are picking up 2, 3, 4 game bans for small offenses, it means the bar has been set. But then you compare it to the Sam Powell crusher and can't see any consistency. Which one of those incidents is most likely to cause a serious long term injury

Although I think the ban is on the harsh side particularly when you compare it to Pryce and Powell, I don't think the excuse that the 2nd, 3rd etc punches were self defence will hold any weight. He should have simply pushed them away rather than swing at anyone who approached him.

Be interesting to know what %age of fans and players - of all clubs - feel that this level of sanction for that level of offending is remotely appropriate. I suspect it would be tiny.

Regardless of the length of the ban and the justness of it, the bottom line is that our combined total of bans currently stands at what 33/34? That equates to losing more than one squad member for the entire season through indiscipline. We're not even halfway through yet! Regardless of all the other problems Rohan Smith has inherited, this has to be number one.

If there was a squirrel grip , surely that should have the effect of reducing this to a couple of games. If anyone had done a squirrel grip on Cullen back in the day he would still be punching him now. Talk about a poacher turned gamekeeper.

Confirmed that leeds won't be appealing.

Clearly the club have realised that our card is marked and little point appealing. 10 is excessive for the incident, but the RFL obviously think Leeds are a club with a bad discipline culture.

He has been attacked and defended himself, he then gets a couple more coming at him and he defends himself.
We might as well be playing touch and pass as the game has gone totally soft.
I cannot understand why we have not appealed against the severity of the ban.

You've claimed for months/years to be losing interest but still keep coming back. Constantly crying wolf isn't a great look.

It’s almost as if the ban been made worse because he hit different people. Like I said the only other toe to toe incident I can think of this year, both players got 5 games. I get the whole the game has changed and it’s not boxing, but I’d question what most people’s reaction would be when multiple people come swinging, especially in what is a high aggression, contact sport.

I understand however given what happened last time they tried, why the club hasn’t appealed.

But isn`t a spear tackle worthy more of Tom`s 10 games for defending himself?

Appreciate we all have different view points but I think "defending himself" is definitely seeing it through blue and amber sunglasses. If chinning someone and then going halfway to berserk is defending yourself, fair enough. Really hope Rohan Smith doesn't take such a liberal view or we'll have difficulty picking sides for the rest of the season.
