Tbf with Leeds just been a few miles down the road and borders on Wakefield it's no wonder talented lads may end up there, (it's hardly like going to Saints or Wigan for example) and in Trinity's case, we got TJ from your side of the M62.
Like I said earlier, Leeds have plenty of advantages both in terms of city size, success and how well it's been run since GH came on board over Trinity and Cas but as you say it can be swings and roundabouts as far as signing these young guys up.

Personally I was going boxing day regardless of the team put out but it does seem Leeds have led people on as hurrell had the injury when he was announced in the squad and now he has been pulled out. Could excuse some gamesmanship during SL season but not in pre season and I don't buy any bs about seeing if got better, he was never going to be played.

In other news it will be interesting to see how sutty goes in the 2nd row and petreu as a starting prop.

Think to say Leeds have led people on is a bit harsh. Furner named 21 and said a couple had knocks and he take squad to 19. They've let fans know he isn't playing.

It's same with every friendly. Lolohea will probably play 25 mins. It's only a run out to earn club some pennies. Meaningless game.

If hurrell was never going to be risked, which is how I interpret the comments today then why put him in the squad other than to try sell more tickets?

It’s not meaningless as it’s worth winning just for bragging rights until the season proper starts. It’s not truly competitive but there is enough at stake to make it entertaininng.

What it isn’t is a guide to how either team will do in the future - you’re looking at individuals rather than the team.

Basically it’s an event and generally an enjoyable one.

This is a meaningless game. Most definitely. 100%. If you were to rank games in the season in importance this game would be dead last.

Pre season friendlies aren't meaningless.

They are not SL games with points available for sure but they are important for building fitness and combinations. This is arguably our most important pre seaon for a number of years with a new coach and set up.

I don't buy the bragging rights rubbish. If you are claiming bragging rights from a bunch of semi fit squads with a bunch of academy lads then it shows how little you have to brag about. If pre season games were genuinely meaningless though they wouldn't happen.

Interesting to see Furner pick Liam Sutcliffe in the second row. I wonder if that's where Furner sees him being long term.

This isn’t a pre-season friendly though. Not really. If Christmas & Boxing Day weren’t public holidays with a tradition of playing on Boxing Day then this fixture wouldn’t exist. It would be left until

Agree on the bragging rights. Anyone claiming bragging rights from a friendly is very much clutching at straws.

Since the end of winter rugby, the Boxing Day game has always been about getting some fresh air and seeing the friends rather than the family.

This year is no different, the players are incidental.
