| Quote ="leeds owl"Wrong on all counts.
The empty seats at the semi were amongst both sets of fans,
I bought my tickets from the RFL when we had 38,000 for our first world club challenge game, your fans could also buy them and didn't, therefore you didn't fill the piedome,
Your ground was a thousand below capacity for the St Helens game, therefore it's not a sellout,
Wigan is a football town, compare the football and rugby average attendances.
Are you a junior politician by any chance, you seem to manipulate the figures and make excuses very well.'"
well calling Wigan a football town on the basis of attendances alone, then we also cant deny that Leeds is a football city and has been since the mid 60s ..It doesnt mean because we have lower attendances than the local soccer clubs that Wigan and Leeds are not rugby towns. We are on the fact that we both have more history and tradition.I was once at Headingley in 1961 1st round of the cc versus Wigan score 5-5 attendance 38000 ,Leeds utd were at home same day attendance 8000.Wigan athletic werent even a league club ,and I am a Leds utd fan ,but I think you could find better ways of critising Wigan than by saying its a soccer town,by doing that you are not doing our game any good

| Wigan is, was and hopefully always will be a rugby league town irrespective of the efforts of sundry football teams - Wigan County, Wigan United, Wigan Town, Wigan Borough and now Wigan Athletic.

Dang ... we'll always be a small club compared to Leeds.
Just one thing how many trophies do the Whino's hold?

But we do have a 99 year lease or something ridiculous like that. So all we have to worry about is paying a monthly/annual fee.
We have no worrying about getting the ground right for license purposes and also losing money trying to improve the ground. We have nothing to worry about when it comes to the DW Stadium. A great position to be in.

Tied into 99 years of being second class citizens that can be temporarily evicted at will.

Dear me! You really think we are in a position where we can be evicted at will? If the football club go down they could be in trouble and will be relying on the Rugby Club. For both parties concerned its best if they can stay in their respective top division. Which I can see happening for a while.

Purely out of interest, do you own your own house?
I do, I'd rather own my own property than be at the whim of a landlord & I have an asset that I can pass on.

This is very true and it would be good to own the ground. The teams probably in the best position at the moment are Warrington and also St Helens after this season, as they will be owning their own grounds which are spot on when it comes to licensing requirements.
I dont know every detail regarding the lease, but we will be getting money in terms of advertising and gate receipts, whilst I do know that Dave Whelan is in charge of the food kiosks around the ground, so in that instance all money goes to him.

Live with my parents currently but when I do move out I will be looking to get a place of my own rather than renting. I can't be wasting money paying off somebody else's mortgage.
Once Headlingley is up to scratch you will be in the better position of course. I just think at this moment in time, we have very little to worry about when it comes to the stadium.

No... you're right, the soccer club and DW would never dream of saying that you couldn't ever play there and would have to find another ground to play in.
No siree, nope, never - never ever would that happen, not on your nellie.

| Wigan fans even have a go at our small stadium, so small they can't fill it v Saints in a semi, i too would rather have a small lego stadium that is in our own ownership than a rented DFS, aka Dave's Football Stadium.
Hiring the stadium puts money in Wires pocket whereas at Wigan it helps Dave fund Man Utd's easy 6 points a season.

I'm not sure if you are on a wind up (doubt it seeing as you're a Mod ) to get this thread going longer but you know full well the empty seats from the semi-final were ones from St Helens, which they failed to sell.
