| Quote ="Damo-Leeds"Your probably right.
But its wrong that someone can make massive profits in the centre of Leeds whilst everyone else struggles.'"
Here's how it works...
Company establishes itself in a city
Company pays (often exorbitant) business rates directly to the city council
Company employs staff in the main from that city
Company pays wages to those staff
Staff who live in that city use those wages to pay their council tax direct to the city council
Staff spend their wages in the main in that city
The shops that they spend that money in use that money to pay their (often exorbitant) business rates to the city
Those shops employ staff in the main from that city
Those shops pay wages to those staff
It goes around and around...
Thats why city's are so keen to attract big stores and PLC companies - because thats where it all starts from - see Bradford for the antithesis of this theory.

Really????
There is no way on this planet I'd let either of my children freeload off the state EVEN if that meant they had to work at ASDA for £1.60 an hour.
I have installed a sense of pride in my children that means the things they want out of this world they know they will have to work hard to get. You seem to think that the world owes you some kind living for 'merely existing'.
I am a big believer in social welfare but as long as the state is prepared to dish out cash to the unworthy, work-shy freeloaders I have to question it methods of validating it's applicants.

I’m convinced that Leeds has more than enough money to put every unemployed person in this city into long term, stable and fair employment. Unfortunately more often than not, profit from these places end up into the hands of where its not really needed.

My two offspring have worked their way through college/uni, neither of them in what might be considered "prestigious" jobs, both of them on minimum wage, one of them is now looking for full time work whilst still working part time at her unprestigious minimum wage job - its what young people are supposed to do, its what I did when I left school, its what lots of college and uni students do - it teaches you to get out of bed in a morning, be reliable and punctual, gives you self-esteem and puts a lot more money in your pocket than JSA will.
There are jobs out there that you can do Damo and no amount of bleating about there not been any will change that fact, grow some balls and climb on the first rung of the ladder or admit that you aren't really looking at all and are quite happy to scrounge for the rest of your life.
Hopefully the spending review will hold some nasty surprises for you in October.

| History just keeps repeating itself doesn’t it really?
In world war two Jews were put into labour camps merely because they were Jewish
In 2010 we are sending long term unemployed people into workfare placements just because they unemployed.
Why is this?
Well Hitler didn’t like Jews and he went as far as killing them. British Taxpayers don’t like the unemployed so they want some sick scheme to stick them on. They want us to suffer for merely existing just like Hitler wanted Jews to suffer for merely existing.

We are contributing to society. If it wasn’t for us they wouldn’t be all them job centre staff. Do you know that A4E makes 150millon+ a year on the backs on the unemployed?
Research a bit on that company and its owner go on..

| I can't work out if Damo is the best troll ever, or the biggest W4nker this side of Mars...
If he's the troll, he's a classic, and even though I find the whole troll thing tiresome, you have to admire his "skill", however if it's the latter he's very clearly a waste of breath and one I would happily see swap places with a source of bad news today.
Incidentally, does anyone else find it ironic that he likes to watch the most demanding sport in the world, whilst proclaiming he can't be d to look for work because "nobody loves him". Poor dear...

Damo - this is not required I have offered to get you on the employment ladder - but of course you are not interested.
Just admit it you are not looking for work?
What I can't understand is why you need an emergency loan for your glasses - you said you were very good at managing your money?
Could it be you spent the money you should have spent on your glasses on beer/rugby so it would seem you are living beyond your means as you need short term finance to maintain your lifestyle!!!

Right, so let me get this straight. You think there are wealthy families living in the inner cities?
You're deluded and (as I suspect we've all gathered) a little bit imbalanced.
FWIW, I grew up on an inner city estate to a single mother. Crime wasn't the only option available to me though it would have been the easiest. Hard work was another option. It's the one I took and It's paid off. You haven't taken that option. Fair enough. It's why you are below the poverty line whilst you waste time on here and why I am well above average income whilst wasting my time on here.

Jimi Heselden grew up in the Halton Moor area of Leeds, leaving school at 15 and working down local pits.
He worked as a miner before losing his job in a wave of redundancies in the 1980s.
His engineering business went from strength-to-strength and he had a fortune reported to be £166m, making him one of the top 400 richest people on the UK.
The tycoon was well known for his donations to charity, giving more than £20m to good causes.
Earlier this month he donated £10m to the Leeds Community Foundation.

Damo, did you know my first job after I left Uni was on a wage band that was abolished when the minimum wage was brought in.
Also, much as I enjoy your trolling (I still cling to the hope that's what it is), if you can't read without your glasses, how are you reading this stuff?
