I'm sure TVOC will correct me if I'm wrong but with Silverwood in the middle, Leeds have won 5 out of 8 matches this season and Warrington 1 out of 3.

Intersting article from Silverwood.
news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_l ... 945679.stm?
[iI watched both semi-finals as a neutral, and the other week I watched the recent game between the sides at the Halliwell Jones Stadium as research.
It's not so that we go in with pre-conceived ideas, but it's good to know what traits certain players have so you can nip any misdemeanours in the bud by talking on the run and keeping the game going rather than having to stop and start blowing the whistle.
I realise 90,000 people haven't come to Wembley to see me blow my whistle all afternoon![/i
Tbh I dont think we should much trouble with Silverwood. Warrington are not a side that spoil the ruck. Leeds will look to have a lot of control in that area and I just hope Silverwood doesn't get stupid about things.

| I wonder if Silverwood spotted any refereeing traits, especially in the game he controlled.

Is it me, or is that hugely contradictory?
No pre-conceived ideas, but it's good to know that certain players are more likely to do certain things so I can be watching out for it?
Best tell JJB to watch where he puts his arms in the wrestle then.

| I really don't like the idea of a ref watching past matches looking for things to penalise.

Me neither. But I suppose its only natural for him to do so. I mean if I was a SL referee and I was to watch a game on sky on my day off, it would be only natural to pick up certain things. In this case he has stated he purposely watched a replay to look out for things. Thats what I don't agree with. That indicates he is looking penalise. Its should be a case of if you see something during the game you take action...dont go looking for the incidents before the game has even kicked off.

| Perhaps he isn't looking to penalise the teams unnecessarily. Maybe he'll warn the teams prior to the game of things he's spotted in the past that he won't tolerate in order to let the game flow.

That would make sense.
We as fans point out the traits of our opponents hoping that it will be picked up e.g. Sam Tomkins holding on to the tackler to win penalties, Hooper taking out the kicker off the ball etc.
So surely we should be glad that the officials are donig the same.
I'd be amazed if they didn't do that any way.
But only to nip problems in the bud & not to penalise players solely on their reputations.
I wonder if Siverwood's comments were submitted to Cummings & approved prior to publication though.
Let's hope he does let the game flow fairly for each side & neither side (& their fans) is whinging about the ref after the game. I doubt that though somehow.
