Don't agree I thought Delaney worked really hard, ran the hard yards when necessary and grafted in defence.

People don't often notice the hard gritty work, they only notice when a centre is making breaks in the final third

| I said earlier in the season that Delaney was Chris McKenna with better hands.
Another display in difficult conditions where he played like an extra back-rower and tackled anything that came his way. He's not going to stand up his opposite number and race 80 yards for a try, but he's solid and effective.

We're just waiting on the better hands.
Both solid as a rock.
McKenna was under-rated I thought. A technically superb tackler. May not have shown off too much flare but in defence he was always a treat to watch. Text book. He'd hit hard in the tackle, really made the most of the tackling opportunity. Rather than tackling just to tackle, if you know what I mean.

I've yet to catch McLennan making the same comments during a live Sky game about Delaney's passing as Darryl Powell did about McKenna's

would that be to the lines of: 'he can't pass!!'
Bluey wouldn't play a player who spent, at that time, most of the week in agony.

| Delaney's a solid centre. I know its stating the obvious but really we shouldn't need to import 'solid' players at all.

| England shouldn't need to give 'no marks' an England debut just because they understudy a great player in the NRL either but it's almost certainly going to happen on Saturday.

I get your point, doesn't say a lot for the state of the game over here does it? But look at donald and kylie who have both shined over here. If delaney can kick on from his nrl career like those 2 did then he will be a real belter. Imo he had more going for him as a player before he left the nrl than those 2. appart from his brain fart on the first tackle 15 meters out with 5 mins to go against the pies in the cup I've been impressed with delaney.

Certainly didn't look out of place against the Dogs with a try and three goals.
He's still a bit short of the finished article IMO and needs to get himself established as a first choice somewhere to kick on, but he's no worse than any of England's other mediocre options at full-back

I might and I look forward to seeing him prove his selection is justified. Earning International caps should be the pinnacle of the sport.

I'm not sure he was leading try scorer but he did have an excellent strike rate from his NRL career - only marginally lower than the one he currently boasts at Leeds.
Mind you, he also had a reputation for defensive lapses so I think its reasonable to say he has kicked on in some aspects (or the standard of opposition puts him under less pressure - take your choice).

His first season at Leeds was 2006, he announced he was moving to Leeds during 2005, (he spent the majority of his remaining time in the Manly reserve grade), so we must be talking 2004?
In 2004 the top try scorer in the NRL was Amos Roberts (Penrith) with 24 tries
Equal second on 18 were: Steven Bell, Ryan Cross, Scott Donald, Anthony Minichello and Willie Tonga

| 21 tries for Manly in 2003, next highest at the club was 10
18 tries for Manly in 2004, next highest at the club was 14
So it's fair to say he was already an established, successful NRL player prior to announcing his decision to move to Leeds. He still made 20 appearances for Manly in 2005 with 9 tries, third most tries for the club that season.
Is what he's produced at Leeds really that much of an improvement from what he was doing in the NRL?

That would depend if a winger was only defined by his try strike rate or not and the importance you placed on the factors that contribute to the strike rate.
