| From memory Ganson's questionable decisions last night were:
1) St Helens (Wilkin?) losing the ball -decision - penalty to St Helens for a ball steal when it appeared a loose carry.
2) Fa'asavalu offload - decision - penalty to St Helens for a Wigan offside (even though it hit a Wigan man first wasn't his team mate who picked the ball up behind him?)
3) Wigan player tackled into touch - decision - scrum St Helens head and feed. Long appeared to to place Joel Tomkins boot on the line after the tackle was completed infield. That being the case penalty to Wigan seems the appropriate decision.
I'm sure there were others but I've slept since then.
Re the final - it's going to Steve Ganson of that there can be little doubt. The only alternative would be Silverwood and he didn't advance his case too much with Friday's performance.

| It was a stupid decision to allow home-town refs to officiate at their clubs games.
Ganson is the best ref we have at the moment BUT the pressure he must be under must be immense. Any 50/50 calls he gives to Saints will be put under intense scrutiny and in a potentially heated encounter he could easily make matters worse.
Best ref yes...best for the final .debatable.

| Ganson helped New Zealand win the world cup last year just like Tony Archer helped England get kicked out of it. Can’t say much on Archer but he must have been good if he was one of the main referees in the world cup but they’ll always be that nagging doubt he’ll do what’s best for his country just like Ganson does for St Helens.
Ganson is a good ref but it’s a no go for hometown club games for me - stick him as video ref.

| gansons a saints fan.
Subconciously he always gives 50/50's their way.
Still though if we turn up and play we should be able to cope with a few 50/50's against us.

I think the touch judge called this one, not Ganson.

Quality has little to do with it - how far up the refs controller's backside are you that decides who gets the games - Ganson is no better than Thaler and Silverwood is certainly no better than Thaler.
On an even playing field Ganson would not get the big games - but hey this RL

The touch judge signalled Tomkins foot was in touch alright but it was still Ganson's call whether it was after the tackle was complete.

Spot on – the touchie has to pop his little flag up when the ball carrying player enters touch regardless of how they got there.
It’s down to the ref to make a (informed) decision as to how/when the player got there.

Was the touch judge the one that looks like one of the Chuckle Brothers? I would personally have referred it to the video referee as it was at a key stage of the game. Although having said that none of the Wigan players seemed to remonstrate the call.
For my two pennorth - I believe that Ganson is the best referee in Super League BUT due to his St Helens bias he should not referee this one. I would like to see Thayler get this one but my head says Ganson.

The players were probably too knackered, so how about the usually laconic coach?

| I honestly dont see the problem with Ganson reffing.
He is the best ref that they have to choose from.
If he gets the GF i for one will have no complaints.

| I don't want Ganson reffing Saints in such a big game, it will just stir up unneccessary controversy, even if he makes every call 100% spot on. He may appear to be favouring his home town team, or go the other way and favour Leeds in an (unconscious) effort to appear non-biased. Either way one side will complain about him bitterly when they lose, and I'd rather talk about the players.
