Remember john always having plenty of time for us as kids around the ground after alliance games, even though he had moved some what out of the lime light you would have never of known with regards to his effort and manor, and when I would see him play what were his last few games for the first team I was so exited!! Total legend a gent and leeds rlfc through and through! Genuinley moved by his passing and feel very privileged to see him play and to have pestered him to sign mi program and nick his tie ups.

I only met him as a kid in the 70s when he signed a few autographs for me which I dug out last night to look at. I was surprised to find I had no fewer than 38 of Roy Dickinson's. Roy used to be so keen to sign, it actually got to the point where I tried to avoid him as he left the dressing room. Good memories.

I was actually reding the John Holmes story in some old programmes from the 80's a few weeks ago. It was a two parter and you realised just how much he'd been a part of the club for such a long time.

I met him once outside the Mansion in Roundhay Park. My mate (genuinely) gave him an invitation to his wedding. John could have told him to, well, you know. But the gent that he was he just smiled and said he might make it.

A true sporting hero (especially considering the price he paid for perfectly timed passes was a stiff arm in the mouth every time).

One of the nicest things about remembering John is that as a World Cup winner nobody can reckon he wasn't as good in his pomp as the best in the world.

Sorry - just to add I think it would be marvellous if they could show some old highlights from John's career on the big screen on Friday, and the idea of a permanent memorial is brilliant - I'd love to see a statue of him somewhere at Headingley.

I am one of the lucky ones priviledged to have seen the whole of John`s career including those cold Friday nights in the A team.

On Boots N All last night Stevo said he had the running game of Eric Ashton, the long passing game of Wally Lewis and could kick goals like Neil Fox, which I think gives some idea of what he thought of John as a player.

They had footage of GB celebrating so they must have images that they will put on the screen

A little disconcerting in terms of what footage they do have that all they chose to show was that celebration rather than anything of him in action.

'Simply the best' came on the radio at work today, It always takes me back to RL in the 80's, made me think it would be fitting if it could be squeezed in, maybe before or as the players & ex players take the field with a photo or video of John on the big screen.
