It was the referees fault for sinbinning Farrell for a late bad challenge. It should never have been sinbinned apparently, despite the rules stating you are, and Leeds conned the ref.
By contrast Ablett is been lambasted for a challenge that wasn't late. It then just comes down to the debatable interpretation of whether it was foul play. Guilty until proven innocent in the pie eaters minds.

| Quote ="tvoc"Coley's offence wasn't even a penalty in my view so obviously it can't be a valid sin-binning either.
The warning to Wigan was given out before half-time IIRC which made it look strange when it was followed through by the official. You don't often see that.
How long does a warning last 5 minutes, 10 minutes, longer than that?
When was the warning to Leeds given and when was the next penalty against them awarded?
Had sufficient time passed to get Leeds off the warning?'"
It was 5 mins between the warning and the next pen!! Like you say both were never sin binnings but Im not sure how a ref can follow through with 1 warning and not the next!
Ive no idea how long its lasts and Im pretty sure Mr Cummins couldnt tell you either!!! And thats whats making our game look silly IMO. Especially when Albert is allowing players to verbally abuse him and get away with it!!

Have I given my thoughts on the incident? I don't recall posting any? Just because you feel you and other Wigan fans feel your view is correct, does not mean it is.
I have already said above that I have not seen it again to be able to judge. I also don't believe what they see on sky on the night is enough to judge an incident like that.
What is good enough is what the disciplinary panel see, and I will accept whatever it is they decide. What is most relevant though is IA post on the other page.

| 2-3 games??? Is that all?? For fecks sake, that aint gunna be enough to satisfy the baying Weeeeegan mob.
There'll be riots down at Wigan Pier tonight. Pies will be thrown to the ground in disgust.
...and Ablett'll be back for the play offs, first game probably against Weeegan, so they've time to practice their "Booooooooooooooooo" noises

| Quote ="Inflatable_Armadillo"G1 - What is also interesting is all the keyboard warriors who think they know the laws and the various guidelines but have never taken the time to read them and just assume that they know them, or there opinion should be the law and can't understand why it isn't!
The review panel will currently be sitting looking at the videos from the weekend. The first thing is that they will watch the Ablett incident at full speed from as many angles as available, over and over again if required, and rarely look at contact with the head cases in slow-mo unless they think there is good reason to. Why? Because slow-mo distorts the viewers perception of time, as we live our life in real time and not slow-mo, they need to consider split second actions of players and what impact that had on the intent and outcome.
They have to decide if the tackle or intended tackle was either Careless, Reckless or Intentional or none of them. If they decide it was not any, they can still issue warning and letters which will be placed on a players record.
So, was Ablett Careless, Reckless or Intentional in his tackle on Tomkins? I think he was possibly Careless and maybe at a push Reckless but I do not think it was Intentional AND you have to look at the specific definitions of these terms in the guidelines. This means the 'guide' on suspension is 0 to 3 games!
Now, lets look at aggravating factors
Previous Record
Violence
Retaliation
Injury caused
Incident not part of play
Other aggravating factors
and mitigating factors
Previous Good Record
Provocation
Technique or Fitness in some cases
Genuine Remorse
Other Mitigating Factors
So, when you look at the aggravating factors for Ablett there isn't any, he does not have a previous record to speak of and did not cause injury (luckily).
When you look at mitigating factors he has a previous good (well excellent) record and suspect that he did apologise to Tomkins after the game and will tell the disciplinary panel (if he gets there) that he was remorseful. Not injuring a player is not a mitigating factor BTW, for obvious reasons.
So, is Ablett going get to get a ban? Well if he does 1 and possibly 2 matches would seem to me to be the maximum, IMO, he is looking at. I also think that, given his excellent record, that not getting one at all but being fined £300 quid along with a warning is a likely outcome.
Predictions - Ok, when the review panel publish their findings this afternoon if Ablett is charged with being Careless I think it will be a fine and warning, if he gets charged with being Reckless he will get a one match ban. If he gets charged with being intentional, well I will be very surprised!
So, if my predictions come true, before the keyboard warriors start spouting the usual rubbish, read the guidelines and the reports and then tell us why they were wrong... bet you they don't though!'"
As Gotcha has said, excellent summary. He's been charged with reckless.
I wonder if any Wigan fans want to retract any of the bile they have posted? I won't be holding my breath.

Thanks both of you, we aim to please and all that!
Reckless Grade C is slightly higher than I anticipated, I was expecting Careless or Reckless Grade B.
I think he is going to cop a suspension more than likely now then. He will not get 3 because of his previous excellent record so bank on 1 for sure and possibly 2. I predict 1... which is s shame in some ways.
As you say, expect a flood of Wigan and other telling us that the review panel is clearly made up of misguided fools and it was clearly intentional and he clearly was aiming to break his jaw before he even left the changing room, never mind before he started the chase!

I think you are pretty much spot on with what you are predicting. We have to remember that this is only the review panels findings at the moment, and at this stage no other circumstances have been taken into account, other than viewing the tape.
Now the disciplinary panel need to sit down and watch it properly, and they will take into account Abletts version of events, and also his record, and the other usual things. They may actually change the grading whilst still finding guilty, or they may even not agree with the first findings.

True, If I was the part of the team at Leeds I would be going into to the RFL tomorrow and pleading not guilty to Reckless but inferring that for Careless Grade A/B with a fine and no suspension they would plead guilty. If they give him any sort of suspension I would expect they will be back on Wednesday to appeal!

A, Look at the frame by frame slow mo
B, Mute Stevo.
Paused at the moment of impact Abletts arm is is tucked firmly into his chest.
Tomkins body is very low down after a good technique at defusing the bomb.
If Ablett is stood tall, arms tucked into his chest, not jumping into the tackle, not raising the forearm is there anything wrong with it? Ablett should have been more aware of the danger he did cause. He should have considered the body position that Tomkins will get himself into. But there was 0% malice what so ever. Clumbsy is absolutely spot on by Shaun Wane.

Seems to be an appetite for this to be true, when its not true unfortuantely.
Excellent thread though, and a lot of very interesting views, we should not lose sight of the fact it wasnt the Ablett incident in itself, its was jawdroppingly unreal to see us get a man sent off after all that went before, it is really difficult not to suspect favouritism, but I guess its possible that the ref just had an off night.
Surely after 3 games Tellins, Wire and this one where we had the bad end of official decisions, we can expect the balance to be levelled for the play offs, and we would accept that if it happens.
As for the Sn Tellins fans trying to bleat, I forgive every Leeds fan as the Tellins fans are just ridiculous, we tend to forget this in the heat of the moment, but to see the Tellins fans spout such utter drivel reconfirms that they are the real enemy and scourge of the game.

Wigan were given the penalties (away from home) 13 to 10.
That's unusual alright but not indicative of Wigan being particularly badly done to.
