Wigan fans like to delude themselves that they are disliked because of envy of their past successes. That['s nothing to do with it, I always had a massive respect for their teams of the late 80s/early 90s, even when they repeatedly stuffed us. It's the fans, they are just horrible, ungracious, inbreds.

I've heard that story about Mills complaining to the Aussie disciplinary about the heat but it was told by Big Roy Dickinson and he tells it a lot better (and more colorful)

Did you see the episode with Jonathan Davies tother week? I never realized how close we were to landing him. He was ready to sign, the deal was agreed and we took him to watch a match at Featherstone and he was put off by how brutal it was. D'Oh!

A pity Harry Jepson couldn't pick a Leeds game to take him along to instead.

Had Davies landed at Headingley his League career may well have panned out a bit different as no doubt he'd have been thrown in at the deep end and left to fend for himself.

Davies says as much in his biography as does Bamford in his. Davies would've been expected to play like Lewis Jones from the off despite the Leeds team of that time being no great shakes.

He was much better suited to learning the game on the wing for a bit at Widnes with the protection of the likes of Sorensen, Grima, O'Neill, Koloto, Hulme bros etc.

You can't worship wigan because you're too busy worshipping Ryan Bailey and dreaming of your life together.

That's probably one of the reasons leeds are so successful at rearing young talent in the modern era. They bring them into the team and they have the protection of Ryan Bailey.

TBH the game is totally different now so "protection" isn't needed, instead it's about playing behind a pack that's going forward and making ground.

There aren't hardmen/psychos like Sorensen/Grima etc around nowadays, Bailey isn't in their league for nastiness nor would he get away with that kind of thing now if he tried.

Leeds are successful now because they have the right culture in the club and a clear pathway from the juniors to the 1st team. In the 90s the opposite was the case.

No we're not. According to most on RLFans we're so succesful because of the structure of the playoffs.
