This is true and that is where any similarity ends. Wyman was not as far as I'm aware a serial hunter of under age girls. He claims he was unaware of her age which she herself backs up, she lied.

When it was found out Wyman paid the price of the publicity. However it was clearly a relationship based on more than sex as he did marry her as soon as he could - not really the act of your average pedo.

Now again not defending Wyman who really should have known better and was far to old for her even when legal - but to compare with alleged Saville and Glitter...hardly.

And more than enough evidence to secure a conviction of grievous bodily harm against a minor I would have thought. Especially if you said it on TV.

My favourite part of the media coverage is the way he is now only known as "Saville" in headlines. You can hear the journos using their special, deep-toned sinister voices when they say the word.

All the stuff that's been publically recorded from the Leveson sessions, and people are still taking what they read in the press and see on TV as gospel. I despair.

Who in all honesty doesn't think Saville is but one of a long line of "celebrities" who thought that the normal standards of behaviour didn't apply to them?

I have no knowledge of his personal traits, and unless you were a close friend, or are a member of his family, I suspect neither does anyone on here. However, the number of people now sticking their heads above the parapet would suggest that the various Police Forces now investigating Saville's activities will be able to reach a conclusion reasonably soon.

I'd have a cheeky pound that Gary Glitter is not the only one to join to the previously sainted Jimmy to be castigated in the Court of Public Opinion, but can I find a bookie to take the bet........

I think there will be lots of squeaky bums among the showbusiness faternity at the moment, any male who has been on TV, radio or in a band that got even moderate chart success will have seen queues of young girls at dressing room doors, its a strange phenominum and probably a primal instinct that some females seem to want to attach themselves to what they perceive as success.

I am with JC on this one and would add that the press campaign IMHO is desigend to deflect attention from any sanctions proposed under the Leviinson report into intrusions into the private affairs of so called celebtities.

They can now cite the Savile affair as a justification for any future actions.

Shame they waited till he was dead first.

You'd be surprised, and according to some of their own testimonies, some of them returned several times for more "special treatment".

The police's conclusions are, frankly, irrelevant.

I've been away for a couple of weeks.
What strikes me is that, in the time I've been away, there still seems to have been very little, if any, corroboration of evidence beyond "Yeah, me too", "I always thought he was a bit odd" and "We all knew but didn't like to say".

If these cases do indeed run into the hundreds, surely we'd have seen corroborative evidence in the news by now?

Evidence would be nice but what sort of evidence could anybody provide for something that happened so long ago in a small locked room with nobody else present? Having said that, has anybody seen that video of him on TOTP where he is clearly groping the girl next to him and she's desperately trying to get away while he grins at the camera?

If this happened in these days of smartphones and social media there would be photos, video and recorded conversations popping up all over Twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc but in the 70's even a tape recoreder was suitcase sized and not exactly common.

I was sceptical at first but the sheer volume of complaints and reports now convinces me that it must be true, even his family believe it. Also there's a lot of talk on here about people seeking to cash in but so far I've heard nothing from anybody seeking compensation and when the question's been asked by interviewers the answer has been that any money would go to charity

If you noticed, even at the outset most of the statements from friends and family of his were voicing their concerns about the impact on his charitable interests, not protesting his innocence.

The freezing of assets by NatWest Bank today would indicate that some financial compensation is in the air, why else would solicitors get involved in such cases if there was no pot of gold to dip beaks into ?

Why for justice and the good of society of course.
