If they're testing a team, under these circumstances I would automatically test anyone who'd pulled out "injured" just in case - on the grounds that you need to be absolutely sure! Anyone who was clean would have no reason to refuse a test under any grounds.

Probably impractical but I'd like to see the testers descend on SL and test every player on the books one unspecified weekend each season in addition to the weekly random four players per game (or whatever it is.)

Although the process would begin on the Friday evening and not be completed until Sunday I think it could go a long way to proving/disproving the chinese whispers doing the rounds concerning TGG at present.

When we used to be tested in RN they'd turn up unannounced and no-one was allowed to leave the ship/base until they'd completed their tests and it was usuallly at 75/85% of the ships company that were tested.
They also could tell if someone else had donated a "speciman" for their mate!

I've never seen any players outside or inside SL taking drugs.

Neither have I, but a lad that works for me goes to the gym with a couple of lads who's international SL playing mate loves a bit in town the night after a game, allegedly of course.

I've seen a few Super League players taking recreational drugs and one of them was after the Gareth Hock scandal came out, I don't see why they'd take the gamble myself after never been involved with that type of thing myself...

I just don't think it would. No matter what testing regime was in place you're still going to get people claiming that they've seen players taking drugs in nightclubs, just like they're doing right now in this thread.

Back to what Dunemann's said in the original article. Basically, if a player was to so blatantly pretend to be injured to make sure he wasn't tested, then those actions would be just as clear to his coaches and ultimately the club management. Dunemann is basically suggesting that RL clubs are willingly allowing their players to take drugs and evade testing.

I don't believe that clubs would be allowing players to act in such a manner and I don't think the drug testers are that stupid that they can be evaded so easily.

I personally have seen a current super league player drinking alcohol,

and also im ashamed to say, once gave a blood thinning agent to another former super league player, i lent him an aspirin

i also shared a diuretic (a cup of tea) with an SL youth coach, and shockingly saw another current SL player smoking tobacco,

i've also heard rumours of players having painkilling injections before playing, some even using steriods to reduce swelling, shockingly they do this with the full backing of the clubs!

drugs in sport really is a massive problem

No doubt but the level of belief attached to such statements when they appear should be reduced if the game had such a stringent test applied in addition to the regime in place.
