I’ll take it back to the cup game when I was ridiculed by some on here. Until Tetevano got sent off, and he bashed him a couple of times, Walmsley didn’t fancy it one bit. Was terrible on the GB your along with Thompson when up against top class international forwards.

| Quote ="chapylad"I went for Saints by 30 and after the first half thought they would double that prediction.
Full credit to Leeds in the second half for a much better defensive display against probably the best team in the comp who wanted to prove a point at home and in front of the cameras.
Holroyd and Johnson for the short time he was on did well along with Myler who I feel is our player of the year.
Smith for me put in a shift which cannot be said for others such as Thompson, Sutcliffe and Walters.
I still don`t get it with Tom Briscoe 2 or 3 half decent games a year is not good enough.
2 tries from Saints debatable in the first half Knowles first one and Makinsons from a forward pass by Walmsley and deliberate use of the knees by Coote at the Dwyer try.
Other than that we were totally outclassed.'"
There was nothing wrong with either of those tries? The knowles one looked iffy on first watch, but Myler rips the ball, then Knowles regathers by grounding. The Walmsley ball to Makinson was about half a yard backwards.
Mata’utia going off injured seemed to really disrupt our rhythm for a while, I’m surprised you didn’t get a try out of it, especially with Welsby off with a head assessment as well. We were just starting to regain our composure when the second half finished.
I think I saw earlier in the thread Leeds were missing 8, Saints were missing 5 so it’s not like injuries were worlds apart.

I did say debatable mate and looked like Knowles knocked it on.
I`ll bow to your better eyesight for Makinsons try as I thought it was forward.
The difference for me regardless of how many either team had out was our go forward and lack of size up front.
Personally I don`t think we justify a top 6 .

| Holroyd played very well. Johnson tightened us up immediately. Broadbent has a weakness to his D which he needs to sort out. Building that real physical strength does take some time.
Walters is similar, just lacks that upper body strength and struggles at open age a bit.
But we know they’re not fully developed yet.
Smith wasn’t great tonight; couple of misses and although he is skilful, his constant hospital passes aren’t doing it for me. He’s giving the receiver no chance and they mostly get battered by the defenders.
I don’t think we can do anything much in the play offs without Mikolaj.
I still think we should beat HKR

| Men against boys tonight unfortunately. Saints are the benchmark and to go there with 10 out, no halves, no size, no middles and kids, doing their best but not at that level yet makes it a virtual impossible task. Saints are better than us when we are at full strength and we are far from that at the moment.
Holroyd has been poor recently i think particularly at Magic but hes playing too many minutes for a 20 year old prop. He played massive minutes tonight but had a real go. Hes going to be good player for us for a long time. He stood up tonight. We are down on troops and hes having to play every week.
Corey got some minutes which is a positive theres more to come from him. Hes a good young player, just needs time. Hes an outstanding kid. Hes the best young 9 weve had in years but we all need patience. Dwyer's days are numbered i think.
Myler was excellent under the high ball and ran well enough probably our best.
Defensively we seemed to wait for them, missed too many poor 1 on 1s. Walmsley destroyed us in truth.
Big week ahead, making the playoffs with the season weve had would be a good achievement with the numbers weve had out all year. Leeds should always strive to make the playoffs every year.

| I understand those who are a bit upset by the performance levels tonight, but when you look at the line-up and see that we had 6 aged 21 or under and nothing resembling a starting side it was probably to be expected. Yes, we had 8 (9? 10?) first choice players missing, but we're at the 'square pegs in round holes' stage now (not that the BBC have mentioned that in their match report, it might have got in the way of drooling over Saints...
It's not simply how many players are missing, it's how many positions are in a completely make do and get by situation. By my reckoning we only had 4 1st choice players playing in their proper positions and in several cases we were using our 3rd/4th/5th choice players. That was never going to be pretty. I've never known a crisis quite like this one.
Leeds:
Broadbent (3rd choice Walker/Myler);
L. Briscoe (2nd choice T Briscoe),
Newman (1st),
T. Briscoe (3rd/4th Hurrell, L Sutcliffe, Broadbent),
Handley (1st);
Leeming (5th, Gale, Lui, McLelland, Myler),
Myler (4th, Gale, Lui, McLelland);
Holroyd,(4th? Oledzki, Tetevano, Vuniyayawa)
Dwyer (2nd, Leeming),
Prior (1st),
Walters (5th? Mellor, Donaldson, Gannon, L. Sutcliffe),
Martin (1st),
O'Connor (4th? Tetevano, L. Sutcliffe, Smith?)
Interchanges: Smith, A. Sutcliffe, Thompson, Johnson

No side in Super League is staying within 18 points of that Saints performance tonight, just complete dominance throughout. But there are actually people on here calling Walmsley a fraud after that performance? He's one of the best props Super League has seen. Some mad stuff being posted on here.

| We are nowhere near Saints this year, but will be a lot closer next......
Some very average players in the team tonight. We are badly missing our best forward (Oledski), only decent half back (Gale), and best outside back (Hurrell).
What did people expect tonight?

...a better performance (not result) that’s reflective of the 17 out there. The poor start isn’t just isolated to the game last night but indicative of a number of recent games and it’s not improved, some wins against poorer opposition have masked that.
That Leeds could still make the playoffs given the horrendous injuries etc is a credit to them for large parts but also a sobering reflection on the overall standard of the competition at the moment with only really HKR improving their stock from last year.Wigan, FC, Huddersfield, Salford, Wakefield all going backwards.

Wonder why Hull KR might look to be the only team to have improved?
Which team has played the least games!
Now m not saying they haven’t improved but this season has been a nightmare for the players with the congested fixtures

Leeming has been our best HB all year ,& Hurrell is either rocks or rarely diamonds Newman is our best outside back by a mile.

You struggled to beat us with 12 men in the CC & Catalans over turned an 18pt defecit in 10 minutes.
Walmsley was great but dont pretend he does that if we have Tetevano & Oledjski out there rather than a young & raw Holdroyd & a way past it Thompson.

| If you look at the NRL, you do get some blow out scores even though all their sides are very good.
I didn’t enjoy us getting towelled last night but neither is it the end of the world.
Disappointed in Jack and Sam’s D last night. Saints targeted that side and they couldn’t handle it.
Again though errors from some senior players led directly to tries.
Reaffirmed my view we need another physical presence in the pack next season if we’re serious. No platform at all last night, ad expected we got rolled and our kicking game was never going to save us.

I thought Holroyd was our best last night, carrying the fight in a well beaten pack at 20. Myler had some spectacular skill at the back, but his positioning is off at FB and his kicking is dreadful.
Thompson had one of his better games for us actually.
Dwyer is terrible at passing but I have never seen a braver player, he gives his all and I respect the guy.
I would be very tempted to start Johnson at either 7 or 9 next week along with Leeming, and have Dwyer come off the bench. Given that Leeming is on a long contract it’ll be interesting to see what we do with Johnson.

To be fair to Myler he’s covering two positions hes FB in defence and HB in attack
Also it’s ok baggin Dwyer but isn’t he out top scorer and got is back in a few games this season, hopefully johnson gets a shot though he looked quality IMO

| I don’t think it’s been a great call splitting Myler and Broadbents role, not withstanding Mylers success under the kicks, it’s really not helped Broadbent or attacking shape of any description.

Stick the ones calling Walmsley out on the pitch and get them to tackle him. Awesome performance from a great player every team would want in their line up. Best line hitter in the British game by a distance .

| One to chalk off last night. Demolished by a team who no doubt had a rocket up their after last week. You could tell by their intensity from the off. It was also their last regular season game at home so no doubt wanted to finish in style.
We had a poor start again which you could put on the coach for not getting them gee'd up, but I also think we look cooked. You can't fault the effort we've put in all year, last night seemed a game too far against a team running hot. We've had so much disruption with injuries this year that I imagine there's a good number putting their bodies online when their bodies are already battered, but we're lacking numbers to give them a proper rest.
I also think that the performance of Walters and Sutcliffe shows why you need some squad rotation. Someone said in another thread that you always play your strongest team. I agree with that but also think you need to keep the fringe players involved, particularly with no reserve league. It's a lot to ask for them to come on and be up to game pace.
This year is a bonus for me. It's been tough for all, but it feels like we've had it tough every week. The fact the Leeming has been one of our best when playing out of position says a lot. Players have been hit with covid and I doubt they're fully over it. There's been players probably coming back from big injuries early, Handley hasn't looked on it this season.
They've done what we've been asking for years and played with pride in the badge. Dwyer for his faults gives it everything he has and them. Not the hoover to take us to the next level, but I have big respect for him. The club have made some good signings for next year and have let players go they could have easily thrown money at. It's been said by Agar that they're looking for a big prop. The future looks bright for the club. This season needs to be done. Give them a good off season and then let's attack next year.
