I'd have Bird in my side any day of the week. He's a player who can get under the skin of the opponents and their fans. We have no tough players with a bit of mongrel inside them. Our forwards are too nicey nicey. Who is going to roll their sleeves up and put in a shift when the going gets tough. Mullally, Garbutt, Cuthbertson, Ferris? All too soft!
Someone should tell Sutty, following his post match interview, that we haven't lost a couple of games it's SIX in a row. Laughing after such a dismal second half display. Disgraceful.

Yet if Cuthbertson catches the ball we most likely win the game.
Not sure why we played Newman for this game. Plenty of potential but maybe Golding on the wing and Tom Briscoe to centre.
Very poor second half and some class needed in this side sooner than later.

The problem is Tad is that they see it as an anti McDermott agenda, rather than what it is, and as a result will defend to the hilt.

What you have shown, or shall I say, what most Super Leagye clubs have shown, is that injuries are not an excuse for getting a performance. Specifically what you have stated, is Powell is getting the best out of the resources he has available and is consistent with his results. What McDermott can do his work with certain tools to rely on, he can not work with other tools, and is restricted in what he can deliver because of that.

It is this very restriction that has continually been pointed out on these boards, but because of the messy arguments, and desperation to defend, it gets lost into an anti McDermott message. But without his favoured tools, work will never move forward.

thing is I'm not sure Powell won have won as much with sinfield etc. mac was the ideal man.

Also had 2 grounded tries ruled out as "held up". Those are given and Cas are discussing a battling loss today. Good win for Cas but just illustrates the fine margins between wins and losses and puts your 1 point losses into some kind of perspective.

1 point or 30 point loss, to be honest quite irrelevent. Performance and response is more important, and more relevant to the comments made here. A 1 point loss only has meaning if the performance matches it.

Just wondering who the 7 Wigan players are that would have played last night. I only count 4 that are not regulars, Woods, Hamlin, Field and Paisley. Others missing would only have replaced them so of the 17 on duty 13 are regular first teamers?

similar to Cas I expect - looking at their team they didnt have only 5 regular first teamers playing

Minikin, Foster, Wardle, Eden, Roberts, Gale, Watts, Jesse, McMeekan, Holmes, Milner all out And all look like first 17 players to me (albeit not sure)

I agree but certainly the Saints loss had the performance. That wasn't really the point I was making though. The post I was responding to (along with how many out for Wigan) was that Cas had lots out and still won. That's clearly true but on another day we could have been talking about a loss as 2 perfectly good Wigan tries were ruled out. Similar could perhaps be said about some of your narrow losses. It's all fine margins in the end and I don't see that the Cas result from last night has any bearing on your situation. As I say, had the officiating been up to the job we'd be talking about a Cas loss with absolutely nothing else needing to change for that to be the case.

On the other hand we'd be talking about a Wigan win with lots of players missing so as you were!

A few decent players there. Other than the 4 kids, who else would have dropped out for the 7 to all play?

Burgess and Manfredi are 1st choice wingers although Davies has certainly staked his claim during Manfredi's absence. Manfredi due back soon so that could be an interesting battle. Farrell and Williams replacing the 2 young lads and O'Loughlin to loose with Isa dropping to the bench. Sutton replaces Hamlin/Navarette.

Just seen a good post comparing the sum total of shirt numbers to determine who had the weakest team out.
If you have your first 1-17 it totals 153.
The Cas shirt total was 296 and Wigans was 277.

More surprisingly was Leeds were a massive 318 but only just lost to a Catalan shirt total of 264.
Gives a bit of credence to McD's point of view.
