I have no agenda. I just post what I see. Minns blew one try by not keeping up with Moon when he made a break and flicked it to his winger. People round me said it was a poor pass. I disagree. The flick went exactly where it should have been but Minns was a couple of yards too deep. Had Vickery been outside him everyone would have gone mad.
I do appreciate it was his debut, but in those situations you should always be on your centres shoulder at worst, not a yard or 2 back.

| Disagree re-Minns H he did what was asked and if you watch the repaly of Moons pass it was low and Minns would have got put into touch anyway as Clare was well within touching distance.
As for Defence EVERY Cas try came from much more experienced players missing tackles.
Also those defending Vickery are quick to point out he's only played reserve NRL only 22 etc etc well Minns is an 18yr opld Centre/BR playing in a position he doesn't play in and played easily aswell as and in terms of effort better than Vickery did.
I've not and i won't blame Vickery for the defeats because it wasn't down to him but Minns has shown we do have just as good at U19 level and for a kid who doesn't play wing went well imo.
Keinhorst took his trys well ,ran hard and tackled well and i do agree Singleton shone again and for me Sutcliffe should be at 6 and did well.

| So that's two things that Minns got that Vickery never did... passes, I mean.
Anyway, delighted for Keinhorst - looks like he might be an excellent exemplar of the McDermott/ Hetherington approach to youth development. Just like we see the dividends of unflinching loyalty to senior players paid out in Grand Final victories.

It had nothing to do with his try. His positioning for kicks was far better than Vickery's and his impact in the collision light years ahead of Vickery. He didn't look scared in the tackle.
Now, I'm not saying Minns was Marcus Bai and Vickery didn't exactly set the bar very high but the whole frustration was that there must be someone, anyone, in the Academy that was better than the Yozzer Hughes of wingmen and it appears there is.

| I think all the youngsters who have recently played have stepped up well. Singleton should be a regular, Sutcliffe has added something to the team and Keinhorst has been strong in attack and defence.
Keinhorst's try was more to do with his line and footwork rather than Burrow. Outside backs are always going to be criticised defensively because we play so tight in the middle causing there to be big gaps outwide.

I thought he was very tentative and was trying too hard not to fekk up. I'll give him a couple more games before a give an opinion but, put it this way, he was no worse than Vickery.

agree and the "bombed" try from moons pass was more of a "shall I come inside or stay out" situation nothing more than being a bit green behind t' lugs

Dream start for Minns, scored a touchdown that needed finishing.
After that thought he ran ok. Stayed on his wing, didn't over play and attempt anything silly. A mature debut for a kid.

Gotcha also said that Clark was going to be a superstar -or at least the next James Roby - and everyone appears to be falling over themselves to get him signed up this morning so in the interests of balance it's only fair to flag that up as well.

Playing on the wing eh! Why did they do that again. Why put a back row forward/or centre on the wing I wonder. They could have easily put Clarkson there.
They did it so Minns will sign his mediocre 1/2 year deal, which rumour has it, he has declined.
Seems a nice lad though, I am pleased for him, but there must be others in the team not so happy.

For a debut?

And for further balance Craig Huby played Friday night. At least I think he did. Didn't he?

| Yup Huby did and scored a try.
If a winger scoring a try made Vickery a superstar according to some at Manchester the other week imagine the adulation if a prop goes over. Speaking of which nice to see Kirke busting them up as well.

I didn't see a whole lot of difference, but as I said, it was the lads debut and a young guy is always going to show a few deficiencies defensively. Whether he turns out to be a whole lot better who knows. If today's news about Briscoe is true then it won't really matter for long.
By the way, I'm not a defender of Vickery. I called his abilities out in preseason after watching him for just 80 odd minutes when I'm sure I remember one person comparing him to a younger version of Pat Richards on here. I'm sure one or two then pulled me up because I had the audacity to say someone who scored 4 tries in 2 halfs looked nothing more than average.
I know come people think i have an "ego" on here but I don't pretend to think I know everything because I don't. I get things wrong, but I also don't post on here unless I'm pretty sure about something where as other just like to say whatever pops on their head

| Can you name one person who labelled Vickery a superstar after scoring a try?
I'll volunteer as one of those defending Vickery from unwarranted criticism. Not his fault BM kept picking him.
