I think this is a problem for pretty much the whole team. There is only Oledzki who looks like he hits the gym. They all look a bit podgy and unfit, and there is nobody with any zip or athleticism.
We certainly don't look like a well conditioned group - and this shows with losing the contact and not dictating the speed of the ptb in either attack or defence.

| Always a more difficult fixture this than some will have expected - this Wakefield team are decent. Some power up front, very good left side and accurate kicking game. Maybe not a trophy wining side but very well balanced.
As for us; I’m not too despondent. I think because too many of our players aren’t quite good enough, we’re having to shift around too much trying to find a solution. At no point has Merrin looked better at prop than back row IMO. Sutcliffe hasn’t really done much at second row for me either. We missed Ward I thought, he started the year in good form.
Watkins bless him has been struggling so far this year, he hasn’t looked comfortable or confident at all.
Clearly we’re all going to have to remain patient this year.

It is and it's a big contrast to wakey. I'd struggle to name one of theirs who didn't have a decent game.

I said before the season us fans would have to be patient, I like you aren’t too despondent, I can see some improvements from last year and I think we will have a run of wins at some point.

He was lighter and quicker when he was a prospect in the NRL. Really couldn’t see him playing wing now.
I don’t think Tui is our biggest problem though - he’s shown a bit of quality.
I am wondering whether we should be giving an academy lad or two a chance, but it’s not currently in positive circumstances.

I would have liked to have seen Mcllelland tonight rather than smith at 6, smith should be ahead of Sutcliffe

| Awfull performance, as bad as anything last year, the whole team looked like they had never met before. We were beat in virtually department. Some players need a ricket up there and some should never play for us again for me. Sutcliffe ferres to start with, seen enough now of Peteru prefer Mullally, Myler i gave defended him but he us not good enough was shown up tonight. Watkins was a turnstile if he is not 100% he needs to be dropped. Not many pluses at all clutching at straws at best.

Yep agreed.
They should really have beaten Saints, who beat us...
Don’t like us using Hurrell as a cart horse, he worries me in traffic for ball control and injury. Other players should be creating space for him because he’s probably the most damaging player in SL one on one.

Yes it is time to give McLelland a run in the halves. Myler's kicking has been very poor and we lack game management and leadership.
I thought Tui joined the attack with very good lines of running not seen since the Brent Webb days and his cut out passing was terrific. Did he make all our tries and set up one that was disallowed too?

Agree again but to be fair is McLelland up to the physicality of SL yet? Smith had a stormer at 6 for Feb so you can see Furner’s thinking.
I would pick Smith instead of Sutcliffe because I think Smith has more development in him. To be honest right now I’d put Ablett in alongside Ferres, Merrin at loose, Crosby at prop (when fit) and have Smith on the bench and Sutcliffe at Fev.

I think he did, he will IMO be very good for us.
Just a word on Donaldson, I think he’s been an absolute bargain for us, I really like how he plays, the type of player every team needs.

Yes, a slower and worse defending Brent Webb is what I was thinking...
McLelland played very well for the 19s yesterday. A few more like that and we’ll see him in first grade at some point I’m sure. Myler does have a nice pass on him and made a try saving tackle out of nowhere, but was lucky not to get sin binned earlier in the game I thought.

I’m not convinced on Donaldson yet. He plays desperate, which is admirable, but makes desperation mistakes too sometimes. What I do like is his ticker and tiger, and particularly team tackling with big Mik tonight they made some dents in Wakey.

I don't understand the options at 6.
Clearly hindered you tonight.
I'd have thought even playing Watkins there and putting Sutcliffe to centre was better than the option tonight.
I think Sutcliffe is pretty good but not at SR. You guys see him more than me but he looks like a player without a position to me.
No offense meant to Smith. He's clearly a good player but 6 at Leeds is a big shirt to fill.
Once that is sorted I think you'll be fine this year.

Its a difficult one, do we persist with the current team as they have in fairness shown glimpses of what they can do or do we change it up, I would be temted to give mclleland a go and also rest/drop Watkins for next week and give Newman a chance?

I’m not a coach but our right hand side shape looks all wrong to me. Because the second row and / or 6 is out of position, it’s exposing Watkins who isn’t fit or in form yet, and opposition teams have quickly worked this out and are having a field day down that side.
If we have a six who positions correctly more often, it might help keep our line better. Watkins keeps jamming in because he doesn’t trust his inside defender to be there or make the tackle, leaving gaps on the outside.
I actually think Briscoe has been in really good form so far this year, but he can’t defend against 2 and 3 attackers every time.

Good luck to you guys this year by the way, I’d like to see Trinity shake it up a bit, you deserve some success. A well-built and cohesive side on a budget.
Tui has been going OK at 6 except in D. We really tried to protect him tonight. How that works with one of your star signings long-term I don’t know, and if he can’t defend by this stage in his career you’d have to wonder.
We have problems. Again.
