Our coaches have been lamenting the kicking/organising execution of the squad for months. If Lui isn’t “that type” of player, I would take this to mean that we plan to change both halves if possible.
If he can defend in the line and help create opportunities for our backs, I’m not unhappy.

Others will know better than me as I only see Salford when they are in TV. Lui is better than what we have in pretty much every department but to be honest that's a low bar right now.

Him and Hastings work well together because they bring different skills to the party so I agree, ideally, we should expect to see another Hb coming in even if we do sign Lui.

If we do survive this season, maybe McLelland has the game to complement Lui if we’re still struggling to find the right half back a la Hastings or Maloney.

So we should expect Lunt and Lui in the squad for Sunday and Parcell out.

I've not seen enough of McClelland to have a strong opinion but his lack of game time given how awful the halfbacks that have played have been suggests the management don't see him as of the required quality yet, at least. On that basis I would be amazed if he is seen as a starter next season.

My gut feel was we would sign an organising Hb and play him with Myler who I do think would look better in that set-up. The potential Lui signing as thrown that o think so I feel like there has to be another Hb coming as well.

I’m pretty sure we’d take McLelland back at Cas, on the right terms. He’s rated by the coaching team and Powell is on record as saying he thought that McLelland and Trueman were the future at Cas. However, his demands returning from RU were more akin to a seasoned half back than someone who hadn’t even played a first-grade game.

Has Parcell done something wrong or does KS not like him? I know he hasn’t been on too form but he adds structure to the ruck and I’m annoyed that we aren’t getting rid of Tui for this ridiculous deal to go ahead.

Parcell will be on a big wage but I think its more a case of he is a player that other teams will want, Tui not so much.

You can’t just get rid of contracted players.

I agree. Our 2 hooking options are now one who has hardly played recently and one headless chicken whilst we let the best proper hooker of the 3 go to strengthen the only team below us in the table. Feels to me like we are playing Russian roulette with our survival...I suppose at least we are trying to do something but God it better work

I personally think the club has left the halfback search way too late and should have acted as soon as it was clear Tui really is as bad as he looks. However, we are very late in the day and basically in a crisis, so I'm not sure what you expect?

Watkins was leaving anyway and the club saw an early release as a chance to use his wages to get someone else. Given that he's behind Newman and Hurrell for the centres (at least whilst he recovers) I'm not sure what the problem is there? Unless you think forcing our club captain to get battered in the second row is somehow a good plan.

Parcell is not a dominant playmaking hooker, and we lose just as many games when he starts as Dwyer. The club decided a year ago he wasn't in the long term plan and the fact nobody has snapped him up also suggests he's not exactly hot property. In any event he's been sacrificed to free up a quota spot, which is needed to get any kind of halfback in (a fit Gale aside I can't think of any British ones worth much). I'm pretty sure Lunt also isn't the long term plan, but if we get him in exchange at least we still have two hookers.

Bottom line is these current moves aren't really about Watkins, Parcell or Lunt, and everything to do with the club desperately trying to sort out the disaster at halfback.

Exactly. More to the point it means we can sign an overseas halfback now. In order to survive this year we're going to do some things that mean that next season is going to be less of a clean slate than it should be.

Watkins wasn't leaving until the Club tried to renegotiate his existing deal for less money so lets not make out he was already out of the door.

He is for next year and right now is behind Newman at centre. The club saw his early release as an opportunity to use his wages to strengthen where we are dreadful.

It's very basic and it's boring and it's a cliche but it really will come down to two things at the end of the season;

1) "we signed Lui and Lunt and let Watkins and Parcell leave - it saved our season"

2) "we signed Lui and Lunt and let Watkins and Parcell leave - what were we thinking?!"

True on both counts. Right now, without the benefit of hindsight, our biggest issue is halfback. Although don't panic, Tui should be available next week.....

IF all this is true and at this moment in time nobody knows if it is we wont have given up Watkins and Parcell for Lui and Lunt. We will have given up Watkins and Parcell plus £65k for Lui and Lunt.

Work that out.

Salary difference mate. We would still have cap room after this (if it happens) which is critical for the rebuild.

Also positional because we desperately need something different at half.

Also Parcell - I don’t know whether there is something else behind the scenes but he seems to have been out of favour a long time. Maybe there’s a cultural thing there too (although Watkins leaving is a cultural blow..)

Salary difference? According to the report Lui will be on £160k a year. I cant see Watkins being on much more currently if at all.

I don't see the Parcell move being about cap either but more hes become a non contributing quota player who is wanted elsewhere whereas our other non contributing quota player nobody would touch with a 10 foot pole or 2 x 5 foot bulgarians.

As I say tho nobody knows if this is all true yet so let's wait and see. If you was Parcell would you want to go to KRnt even?

According to league express Lui deal is dependent on Hull KR releasing one of their overseas players. Believe someone maybe heading to Catalan. Possibily Vaivai (sorry if spelt incorrect)
