last week webb Leuluai smith Watkins and McShane drop or injuries do you think any of them will play this week
mcdermott's say in the yep www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/s ... _1_3595141
If Watkins does start in the centres this weekend that would allow either Carl Ablett or Brett Delaney – who both prefer playing in the back-row – to return to the pack.
options will be increased further if full-back Brent Webb is given the all-clear to return
lee smith , can also slot in at centre or wing
i would go with
1.Ben Jones-Bishop
2.Zak Hardaker
3.Kallum Watkins
4.Lee Smith
5.Ryan Hall
6.Danny McGuire
7.Rob Burrow
8.Ryan Bailey
9.Danny Buderus
10.Jamie Peacock
11.Jamie Jones-Buchanan
12.Carl Ablett
13.Kevin Sinfield
sub
14.Brett Delaney
15.Ian Kirke
16.Kylie Leuluai if not pass fit Ali Lauitiiti or Weller Hauraki
17.Brent Webb and try him at hooker if not pass fit Paul McShane
this team would give us some speed in the back line bailey play better when he start
dont think burrow should be on the bench play better at 7

| We were so dominant against Hull last week, that there is an argument to say we should go with what we played last week. Except for positional in the half backs.
Christ there has been enough times this year that we have rewarded pish poor performance with continuous selection, so why not reward good form?
That said, I would like to see Watkins back sooner if available.

| I'd go with similar to WCRhino but...
1. Webb
2. Hardaker
3. BJB
4. Watkins
5. Hall
6.McGuire
7.Burrow
8.Leuluai
9.Buderus
10.Peacock
11. JJB
12. Clarkson
13. Sinfield
14.McShane
15.Delaney
16.Ablett
17.Bailey
I know it's a young back line, but let's face it, the outside backs aren't exactly Hull's strength so if we're going to give them a run now is the time to do it. It also frees up both Ablett & Delaney to do some work in the pack given that's where we need them most for this match.
And there's no question that (despite Burrow's form) we are much more organised with 6,7,9 & 13 in the right positions.

| RR...I eg to differ on your selection.
To put the realative inexperience of BJB and Hardakeragainst what I believe is an international class left side attack of Manu,Yeaman and Briscoe is suicidal, given the likelihood that Hull will manage some offloads to put these players into some space in our territory. This must be a big part of their strategy and the restrictionof Manu's offloading game should be a major part of ours. I am also concerned with BMD's statements that Watkins, should he play, would be doing so ahead of getting any medical clearance and with the admission that he is not match fit. The last time we tried such a thing against Hull (with Keith) we lost the cup final.

| I'd like to see BJB get another go at full-back. Just felt a lot more confident that when possible, the ball would be taken on the full rather than letting it come to a stop on the floor before he picked it up. Definitely helped our momentum! Doesn't shout and ball at the ref too much either. I know he dropped it, but I think he more than made up for it. You could see the communication much better too. Webb does have a habit of running into our other backs under bombs! Would leave Smith in the academy, he seemed to like it there.

There is not a lot wrong with BJB defensively. He makes mistakes, but it's certainly not a "weakness". You don't favour the full back position without been able to to make a decent fist of a one-on-one tackle, besides which, if they offload and break, or find a gap, he'd catch them anyway.
The only other options are Ablett or Delaney and neither are any "better" than BJB and we need their work rate in the pack.

I'd agree 100% with this, but it's not going to happen so I didn't pick it. I'd love to give BJB a proper run at full back and see if Webby get's his spot back (which he probably wouldn't!). I've nothing against Webb at all, I really appreciate all he's done, but I must admit I was gutted when he signed the extension. The end of this season would've been perfect timing to end his Leeds career with the fans still behind him and BJB raring to go. Oh well.

| Gotta to say that we must play Webb as he appears to be our best threat in the opposing 20.
I would not pick Watkins until next week and I would have either Ablett or Delaney at centre to combat their threequarters.
I agree Bailey on from the start with Kylie coming on later.
If they persist in playing Kirke at prop then he could get the nod over Clarkson.

Apart from Bailey starting at 8 and Singleton on the bench in his place, I would suggest this is our best starting 17 until the end of this season.
However, let's face it the somehow favoured Kirke and Hauraki (and Ali) will be here to haunt us for some time yet.

| I know, important Challenge Cup quarter final so lets shove Ben Jones-Bishop in at centre where he can deal with the Hull left edge of Manu, Yeaman and Briscoe.
You couldn't make it up.

Sounds like you don't have a lot of faith in BJB.... Why would he have to be dealing with all 3 ???? ... Wouldn't Delaney ( granted not Hauraki ) and Hardaker be there on that side to help ?

Plenty of faith in BJB. Very little faith in him being half as effective playing out of position. When was the last time he started a game at right centre?
Defending well is as much about combinations as attacking. Learning how to read where your inside and outside defenders are going as well as recognising where the runners are coming from. Defensive partnerships need time to develop - breaking up one that was a major part of keeping a clean sheet just a week ago, particularly against a club that traditionally loads its attacking options down that side, is lunacy.
Personally, I'd go the same as last Friday. Reward those responsible for a tidy performance. Maybe Leuluai for Pitts off the bench, but that would be my only change.

Not at the same time, but at points in the match he would have too, and each player has a different skill set which would mean he would have to adopt different technique on each one - for someone who hasnt played a lot of centre, to expect him to cope against 2 of the top try scorers in the comp and Willie Manu who has been fantastic this year (and hopefully will get a touch of the ball this week!) might be a tough ask for him

| I can accept the points about defensive structure.... But is Delaney at RC and the favoured Hauraki in the second row a better option ?
Should not the team have faith in its own abilities and not be defensively sticking forwards ' out of position ' ?
Besides how many different right side combinations have we had already fielded this season ? Hardly enough to have a strictly adhered to pattern that BJB could not adapt to on the training field surely ?

And how effective have we been defensively on both edges as a result?
Delaney, Sinfield and whoever was operating as the right side second rower at the time did a pretty decent job on Hull's best attacking threats last week (albeit with assistance from Horne and Westerman, who seemed incapable of passing to their left for most of the game). Let them build on that rather than slotting in a player out of position and making them start again.
I'm unconvinced - tactical arguments aside - that Jones-Bishop has the physicality to deal with Manu or Yeaman either, certainly not for the full 80. There's a big difference between playing wing or full-back and needing to make 6-8 tackles a game and defending two in from the wing in terms of workrate.

Webb rightly or wrongly will walk straight back into the team....meaning dropping BJB ?
Didn't see much of this perceived threat from Hull last week.
Delaney can always be moved if there are any danger signs of a tired BJB.... In the meantime he might have won us the game with his attacking prowess.

| Delaney, even if he is more suited to the second-row, is the best defensive centre we currently have. Hull's only threat all season as been down their left side. It's a no-brainer who should play at 3 for this game.
Webb
Hardaker
Delaney
BJB/Watkins
Hall
McGuire
Burrow
Bailey
Buderus
Peacock
Abblet
JJB
Sinfield
Leuluai
Lauititi
Hauraki
McShane
The current, shadow-of-himself Ali still offers more as an interchange prop than Kirke.
