| Todays Daily express says according to Duneman players over here know when drug testers are due to visit and one of his team mates turned up on crutches so he did not get tested only to be doing sprint training next day

| A great player who unfortunately gets forgotten on here. Southstander is truly not a place to talk about rugby league. That’s why I go on Facebook to do it!

Its too late to go on Facebook and have a meaningful debate about rugby league. Especially if your like myself and avoid as much instant messaging time as possible.
Next time I’m on we’ll have a meaningful debate.

| the sooner testers can randomly turn up unanounced the better, not saying it's rife in RL, who am i to know, but i bet gareth hock could start his own team if the testers went to war.

| Is anyone seriously suggesting that all you need to put off a drug test is a bandaged arm or leg or a pair of crutches? If that is the case (which I doubt) then the drug-testers aren't doing their job right.

| Its a bit of a non-story though isn't it, more of a quarter column filler where an advertiser has dropped out -
"Hey boss, this advertiser has cancelled, we've three inches of column to fill"
"I'll tell you what, last year I heard someone say that Dunneman had said this one day when he'd had a few sherberts..."
When I heard this yesterday I thought it was going to be a big story - if that newspaper article is the full extent of it then its not even worth the paper its printed on, if he'd been properly interviewed, named players, dates, locations and occurences then I'd have been convinced, as it is its just idle gossip developed on the back of a throwaway comment and its no better than if I'd made a throwaway comment too.
Its the reason why I've not bought a newspaper for decades, they should be prosecuted under the trades description act for using the word "news" in their titles.

lol
Beating the testers is like taking candy from a baby.
People think that oh well they get tested so it's impossible.

| How I have been told, rugby testing works like this:
the tester comes on match day and they draw out a squad number, say 9 for example, then 9's from both teams take the test almost there and then.
So it would be pretty hard to dodge if works like that.

Unless you know you're only going to be tested on match day, in which case many recreational drugs could have left your system to such an extent that they won't be picked up by urine analysis depending on when they were used and in what quantities.
The introduction of the WADA code in respect of the "elite" group should put them in a position where they can't risk taking anything at any time.

| In US sports some athletes would have some else's "clean"urine injected into their bladder before a test.
Yuk!

If they're injured they'll likely have various prescribed medications and painkillers in their system that would effect the sample. Still its a loop hole that needs considering.

I'd love to see a tightening up on drug testing in RL, and most other sports. I don't think laying off recreational drugs is too much to ask of aprofessional sportsman, before you even get onto actual cheating through drug use.
I remember reading this:
www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/tomfordyce/2 ... _gold.html
from an oft-neglected perspective on the problem of doping in athletics. Not entirely relevant here, but a good read.
What is more relevant is that drug taking in pro sport does great harm to the reputation of the sport which gives these people their living. I'd like to see testers turning up unannounced at training and testing a decent sample of the registered players they find there.

If they're testing a team, under these circumstances I would automatically test anyone who'd pulled out "injured" just in case - on the grounds that you need to be absolutely sure! Anyone who was clean would have no reason to refuse a test under any grounds.

| Probably impractical but I'd like to see the testers descend on SL and test every player on the books one unspecified weekend each season in addition to the weekly random four players per game (or whatever it is.)
Although the process would begin on the Friday evening and not be completed until Sunday I think it could go a long way to proving/disproving the chinese whispers doing the rounds concerning TGG at present.
