Tim Rumford has been keeping tabs on versatile forward Ryan Backhouse and following positive talks, he’s secured his services for the Blues. Backhouse is a product of the Castleford Tigers Academy and has good League 1 experience with York and some Championship games under his belt with Hunslet Hawks in 2015.

Rumford said on his new recruit “Ryan is a good addition to our squad, he’s a tough lad who’s maturing into a strong running player. Even though he’s only 22 he’s gained some solid experience and has had an excellent rugby league education in the Tigers academy. Oxford is a club of opportunity to progress and this is a good one for Ryan to grasp and kick on.”

Backhouse added “I’ve known Tim for quite a while and have a high regard for him as a coach. He’s passionate about the game and developing players. I appreciate Tim giving me the opportunity and I’m really excited about to getting stuck in and up to running speed with the boys. I want to make the most of this and do my best for the Blues.”

Rumford closed by saying “Ryan’s a positive character and even though he’s still a young lad, his experience will make him seem an old head in our squad and I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing what he brings to our group.”
