Can't believe nobody has mentioned the latest rumour regarding a new stadium.
Residents of Stainburn Avenue have been given letters about a planning application due to be submitted for a new stadium for Castleford Tigers situated adjacent to them on the field near the slip road on to the M62 East.

This was apparently the announcement that was due to be made at the Catalans game which never happened.

Anyone got any more info on this?
Perhaps someone can post a picture of the full letter, I know it's doing the rounds on Facebook at the minute

Not only will it be a stadium but more exciting things
The stadium will be owned by the CLUB!!
The people living on the local street have allegedly got a petition together to rule against this happening

I don't think anyone is getting carried away. No-one is naive enough to believe this is any drastically different than last time.

Except for the fact it won't require us to fund it.

Good luck to you. Just read that jack Fulton owns the land soaked it more feasible that it would get built. To my great distress I have 2 little granddaughters who go to cas with their dad and I would love for them to be able to go to a modern stadium with decent facilities

Do we really need to do this ? Franchising has gone now - can't we just upgrade Wheldon Road ?

Yes we do because in 20 years time there will be no Castleford time to take the blinkers off and realise it is the way forward to grow has a club.

No, because we don't have the money to do anything fancy to Wheldon Rd.

Plus it's constrained in the hospitality and money it can bring in. Leeds have hospitality probably 10 times the amount we do on matchdays. That's a significant amount of revenue.

Not going to get my hopes up Fully - too many false dawn's for my liking in the past.

I'm going to sit back and enjoy what looks like been a great season on the pitch and let the new stadium business take care of itself.

My mates who lives on there knows nothing about a petition.
She did say if there is one she will sign it.
Her only bug bare is the traffic congestion.

She said its bad enough on a weekends now with j32 and xscape.
So with stadium/supermarket/stores its going to be 100x worse.

Also you have to consider race days at ponte race course as well.

If this is a goer it seems wiser to try and work with local residents and win them around. Maybe there's some way to get locals' buy in - certainly the routes around the motorway junction would have to be improved as part of the project.

No point in fans getting too excited until some plans emerge. Same is also true for any potential nay-sayers... petitioning against "er, whatever it is" is just nimbyism for the sake of it.

I work with people who live on Stainburn Ave and they mentioned the letter to me today.

The congestion down at the junction at the end of their street is horrendous at weekends so completely understand their concerns.

To me a solution for them could be if a relief road was built that loops around the back of Stainburn Ave, along the back of the street and exited at Holywell Lane.

Also could another exit be built that led out onto Spittal Hardwick Lane?

Yes I know 100% a petition is going in. Obviously I don't blame them but would rather it not.
It would be a better option to build another junction from the M62 if possible as like I said it will not only be busy on game days but with what I also know is getting built there.

Could this also be a replacement site for Knottingley, Ponte and Castleford baths ?

I'm guessing a retailer is paying the short fall for new stadium In exchange for Cas to drop it's planning permit for Glasshoughton , in which case the retailer would have to be successful with it's planning app at GH as well as our Planning app at new location . It could take a long time.

Dont want to put a dampener on this with first post, but isn't that area riddled with Sand Mines making it unsuitable to build on? or is that just part of it?.
