| speaking to a wildcat fan today who filled me in about the arrangements of mathers loan spell.
i suppose folk on here will probably know this already but as i understand it, cas pay a chunk of his wages: he cant be recalled :
and can play against cas every time we play wakefield.
now given our alleged financial status and the fact we seem to concede 40+ points on a regular basis i am thinking this is not a good deal for cas.
i dont know who arranged this deal but when the clear out begins, and it surely must, then this guy needs to be first.
surely the team in its current position needs ritchie mathers.

| In fairness, he's playing out of his skin for us - made a try saving tackle against the monster that is David Feriol on Sunday, when he was in full flight; also plucked a couple of high bombs out of the air amidst heavy traffic. He's been safe as houses.
Having said that, if he didn't fit IM's plans, then it can't really be called a poor decision; paying half of his salary whilst he plays for us must have been considered better than paying all of it whilst he carried the water at Cas?

| I liked Mathers. Wasnt always on his game but his effort couldnt be faulted. Would of liked him back but with no recall clause lets hope we sell him before his contract expires.

I genuinely hope we extend his contract - he seems like a good bloke to have around and by all accounts, is always willing to go the extra mile in training; also does lots of good work in the community team.
Sometimes it's just about the club and the player being a good fit - seems that Mathers is a better fit at WTW than he was at Cas.

| well wide of the mark forrard, i have been a cas fan for over 40 years. my point was that we are leaking 30+ points per match and mathers is an experienced full back. should we not have kept the option of a recll?. if as is suggested ian did not have plans for him, what happens if ian doesn't last for whatever reason. a new coach should be given all the tools available and to be able to make his own mind up as ian did. i think we all suspect that in 3 games against the wildcats mathers is going to do something that will make us regret this decision.

I agree with that. He made his mistakes but so does everyone (including at the moment the whole of the current squad!!)
It was the first time in years we've had a specialist full back, I would have liked to have seen Millward mould him in to a Paul Wellens type player - he had the potential

| Never thought Mathers played his best for us, and obviously Millward didn't fancy him. Our loss is definitely Trin's gain.

Mathers replied to my question and he said that he was going to continue to work his ars£ off in order to persuade Agar to buy him out of his contract with Cas

| would take Mathers back anyday with how Owen is playing, I always thought Mathers gave 100% and was always steady and played well if the whole team played shocking,
