| Looking at our squad and with the possibility of no other back line player being brought in, what are our best centres to go with for next season, obviously Arundel will be one centre but its quite open to whom will be his partner, lots of options, but which is best:-
Dixon
Thompson
Mcgoldrick
Griffin
Ferres
Maybe one of the upcoming new signings can play there.
Personally I don't know who would be best.

| I would respectfully suggest from that list it is a simple choice of Dixon first at this stage. It does depend how Basil sees Jordy and Griffin I guess, plus it depends how Goldy goes in his pre-season? But if it were me right now it is a no brainer......
I actually hope Basil throws away everyones reputation and picks on form from February onwards and carries on doing exactly that.

Can't comment on Griffin but I wouldn't want to divert Ferres/Thompson from the forwards and I'd rather go with Mathers than Goldie so Dixon would have to be my preference. I don't know if it's his dubious tackling technique or some backgound issue but Menzie Yere at Sheffield doesn't seem to attract the interest you would expect from his impact at Championship level.

| out of that list i think the best option would be thompson for a year, if we are bringing in two forwards he's not going to be playing everyweek and i think he would do a better job than any other candidates for the centre spot.

Yes i would agree with Thompson as well, Dixon is better on the wing imo.

That would then free up Owen to play at full back.

Yes, Owen looks a better player there.

| Totally out of left field but with Thompson excelling in the second row, does anyone think Oli Holmes could do the opposite switch?
Cast your minds back to the beginning of last season; he was one of our more enthusiastic chasers when kicking the ball in goal. He has the big build to be a very good centre and with some training over the off-season I think it could be quite a good switch. He's also very, very good defensively which Ferres and Goldy aren't.

| No the Holmes going to centre, he's no where near quick enough.
McGoldrick did an interview with the sun saying he was excited for 2012 with the new coach. One question, where will he be appearing?

After last seasons performances, I think we might see him running on with the water, and that's about it.

| I can see Goldy playing in the centre to be honest with Dixon on the wing.
Got to trust the new coach, like with Parker, last season is history is is only 2012 form and pre-season that shoudl count towards selection in 2012.

I'd like to concur, but with Goldy you've seen it happen time and again - does some good things but sooner or later he starts arguing with the ref and costing us penalties then gets frustrated and does some thuggish act which has most reasonable Cas fans saying he should never pull a Cas shirt on again...

Being a centre doesn't mean you have to be quick. You need an eye for space and good ball-handling skills and then strength near the line.
As for pace, is it that Holmes is slow or that Holmes wasn't fit enough under Matterson's regime?
