I totally agree he would be a good choice (and i personally think the deal has been done) the thing now is the timing, expect a announcement in the first two weeks of July.

| Would be vehemently against hiring Justin Morgan and would be disappointed by appointing Noble. Sure Noble is a big name, but I've never appreciated his teams' style. That said, his record speaks for itself, although I'm sure some were saying that when we hired Ellery Hanley.
Justin Morgan has done wonders at Hull KR with a load of money and bending the overseas quota rules. HKR have produced very few homegrown youngsters to SL level, and given the resources Cas have and the impressive youth development we've done, Morgan would be a very poor fit.

Personally I prefer substance to style and I've not seen much of either down the lane for a long while. IMO we need a coach who can produce a side with mental as well as physical toughness and which buys into the theory that defence can be a form of attack (eg Hudds/Wire/Wigan). For me Noble fits that bill far better than any of the others mentioned so far.

I agree about Morgan. If he was appointed I think many fans would see it as a backward step. Same with Kear. With Noble, I'm not keen on his style of rugby and I'd be worried about whether or not he'd continue offering opportunities to the young local talent; however he's got a proven track record and his appointment would give the fans some confidence in what the club's ambitions are.

| I really do not want Morgan, never rated him since he took over at HKR.
Noble would show good intent from the club about our future and also an English coach!

| You could say the same about a few other coaches re: Morgan.
For instance, could Tony Smith do the same job as at Wire whilst under the limitations at Cas? Could Michael Maguire? Could Nathan Brown?

Wrong. It would be a backward step for us because he'd have a lot of young local talent that he wouldn't have a clue how to support and develop. He's proved that where he is now. Nor would he be working for a club prepared to put itself up the eyeballs in debt to waste money on second rate imports. Granted they're not all like that, infact Hull KR have an overall decent squad, which Morgan's done bugger all with.

| I completely agree with regards to Noble and his application of mental toughness, and defensive steel- it is something I would love to see at Cas. As for his "Boring style" I highly doubt that he would simply tell Rangi Chase, McGoldrick and Orr to be boring, rather simply reign it in to play that style in the right place and right time- something we usually don't do, and end up paying the consequences for over playing.
Surely someone such as Brian Noble would also be a draw for bigger players- being outside the big four is always something that is going to be a hinderence in recruitment, and with his reputation in the game I feel it would help us. Also considering the constant rumours/complaints from fans about players in pubs/bars etc I would imagine he would be a well respected figure for the players.

| I'd love to see Noble at Cas!!
As for those who talk about a 'boring brand' of rugby, they haven't got the first clue about the game!!! A coach who gets his team to play the right game plan....for the right conditions, for the right opposition.....is a coach who gets results!!
Everything that is solid and reliable in life is built on the right foundations. In our game that means good fitness, a good pack, a good defence and a solid ability to do the basics...and do them well. With that structure behind you, your attacking players have everything they need to run riot and give the entertaining game that we all want to see!!

I think it's a bit harsh to say that I haven't got the first clue about the game given I'm one of those who dislikes Noble's brand of rugby. What I can see, is that what he would bring is what we seem to lack at the moment, especially in defence, plus a winning mentality. The creativity is there, it just needs the defence to go with it.
In Noble's defence, it's 5/6 years since he left Odsal and the Bulls are even more boring than ever, so perhaps each team has their traits which are ingrained and emphasise their core style and it's up to a coach to develop their weaker areas.
The more I think about it, I'm not sure it's an attacking coach that we need - our team can do that for fun anyway. It would be nice to be sitting here not expecting a hammering tonight, but with our squad depth, injuries and defence, it's difficult to see anything else. One of Matterson's strengths as a coach has been that one worries about staying away and missing a gem of a game, which his team are so capable of producing from time to time.

| I reckon Nobby would keep Cas Classy but really have ago at toughening up our shoddy defence. Get it installed in the young uns the importance of defence. Defend defend defend and let the attack take care of itself.

| Using tonights game as an example, the positive noise made by the Cas fans, was without doubt during two distinct periods. Firstly, during the period which followed Rangi flattening Ben Westwood with a bell ringer of a tackle. Around the 8th or so minute. This was followed by a spell of our lads really getting stuck in with the tackling.
The second spell was following Emmitt and Coopers difference of opinions and the good old fashioned, 'all in' which followed. After this Cas again really had a spell of getting stuck in, whilst the Wires had been un-settled from their game plan. The result coming out of this was of course a few quick scores.
On both occassions the crowd noise, appreciation and enjoyment of what they were seeing seemed to rise and with it, so did players committment to the big tackles.
So lets not knock the value of a hard hitting tackling style of play. Many fans do enjoy seeing good hard solid tackles, just as much as an all out attempt to keep the ball alive looking for any opportunity of a break.
Joking appart, the lads probably just need 10 good lashings with nettles before each game to get them wound up and ready to get stuck in.

| Noble is the one for me. I was fortunate enough to receive his coaching as a junior and its stuck with me more than any other coach and at that time he was very new to it. Would be a massive coup for the club if we can attract him.
