| Welcome on board mate. Cas are annoyingly good and bad in lots of ways. Mostly us Cas fans just want to see rugby played in the correct way with a bit of class thrown in now and again. If we see players put the effort in then we'll follow them to the ends of the earth. I'm sure you'll enjoy the odd game watching Cas, but as i say, we can be frustrating at times. We going through a decent spell at the minute and who knows where it could end up. A good run in the play offs will be something special, the likes we haven't really seen for many a year.
I had a similar problem as you this season, which aussie team to follow. I'd always kept an eye out for West Tigers simply for the name, but at the beginning of this season i decided to watch lots of games and finally make my mind up who to support. Melbourne, i admired their rugby but being the top side and me being a Cas fan (used to the under dog etc) i just couldn't jump on their bandwagon. Good choice concidering what happened not long after. I like watching Manly and thought they were going to be up there this year, but still i didn't fancy them for some reason. Not many others took my fancy to be honest because i seemed to compare each aussie team to a similar SL side. I then watched about 3 or 4 West Tigers games on the bounced and each one was a nail biter. The games were entertaining and Wests either just pipped it or just lost it, all the time playing attacking rugby. They weren't the best, but seemed to have a right good go every time, and i just couldn't do anything else but compare them with Cas. Everything about them was just so similar to Cas. So i'm an armchair Wests fan.

| I'm not joking.
I am seriously going to buy some Castleford merchandise and come and check out a home fixture when I've got a weekend spare.

You'll be most welcome.
I recommend coming to the Cas v Leeds game. Your hatred of all things Leeds should fit right in.

I could never really get my head round Wests Tigers as a concept. I'm not a fan of these 'joint venture' clubs. Look at the way the poor old North Sydney Bears got rooted over by merging with Manly. I used to admire the old Western Suburbs Magpies and all they stood for.... yet was never a big fan of their rivals the Balmain Tigers. If I had been a real dead set Maggies fan I personally would never have been able to become a Wests Tigers fan. I'm surprised Magpies fans took to them. I know a lot of English people go for Wests because of the Gareth Eliss connection... yet the same people were going for the Sydney Roosters when Adrian Moreley was playing there....and I'm sure Souths jumpers are a big seller here now just because of Sammy Burgess.

| Welcome onboard the roller coaster that is Castleford Tigers BMac, there's never a dull moment as a Cas fan... if we're not turning it on with our expansive play (unfortunately, it usually only happens every other week), we're upsetting the load of old whatsit's that are the RFL, I think they really must hate us at Red Hall!
Your support is very welcome! I'm sure you will be given a big Cas welcome when you finally get to see a game at the aptly named Jungle, let the club know and I'm sure you will get a mention at half time.
As was mentioned earlier in this thread, the Leeds game would be a good one to attend, should be a big crowd and a great atmosphere, also hopefully another positive outcome for us, unless we suffer the same kind of ill fortune that cost us the game last year.
I have to admit that I have affinity with West Tigers down under simply because of the name, also of course a born and bred Cas lad, Gareth Ellis is now doing his stuff for them. I always took an interest in Cronulla though when Stu Raper was in charge and also Paul Mellor went back there to play.

| Another good thng about coming to Cas is the ground and atmosphere. Ok, we all know we need a new ground but many RL fans really enjoy coming to Cas and it's one of their favourite grounds due to the fact you seem so close to the players. The atmosphere can be electric and if our form continues and we give Leeds a game it's definatley one you should be there to witness. Often this fixture is pushing 10k and even more and all though you might be used to more than this in Oz, when Wheldon Road has 10k fans in it's rocking.
Where would you be travelling from if you make your visit to Cas? And as already said, make it known to the club you'll be there and they'll give you a shout out i'm sure.

I live in West London mate.
I'm leaving the UK at the end of the year for (hopefully) sunnier climes. I've travelled around the UK a bit since Ive been here but I fancy taking a couple more footy matches in before I leave forever.
It might not be advisable to get the announcer to say 'Ladies and Gentlemen Barry McKenzie from RLFans is in' just incase I [imay[/i have said something in the past on these forums that might have caused offence to someone
Its a long journey back down the M1 to London with 2 broken legs and a programme shoved up my clacker

| West London. So you'll have been to a few Quins games i'm sure. Have you sampled many other grounds? What are your thoughts on SL, players stadiums or whatever? I'm always interested in what players and fans from down under think when they sample our game. We usually only hear from the players that they are amazed at the crowd, the singing etc but not much else.
I think most RL fans in this country will admit our game isn't up to the standard of Aussie rugby, at least not so much on a grand scale. We don't yet have the quality in depth, all though some would argue that this is often our own fault for not throwing more effort at our youngsters when we can sign a second rate aussie instead.

I've avoided attending Twickenham Stoop for any Harlequins matches. I drink with a couple of blokes who have been there and they told me not to waste my money. The footy is poor, there is no atmosphere, no decent players in the squad these days and I think this is reflected when you look at Quins results and attendances. Personally I'd sooner hang on to the money I would have forked out on a Quins ticket and swap it for pies and VB down Shepherds Bush Walkabout. The only time I have been to a game at the Stoop was the Australia V NZ 4 nations last year.
But I must be honest... I'm missing a bit of live footy. Since I've been in the UK I've seen SL matches at Hull, Wigan, Saint Helens, Huddersfield...and Celtic Crusaders v Leeds at Newport last year...a game which put me off attending any others.
I'm genuinely looking forward to checking Castleford Tigers out. I've always admired Tawera Nikau and the way he has overcome the obstacles in his life. He always spoke highly of Castleford and the supporters when he played for Cronulla Sharks. As did Mitch Healey.

Thanks to the miracle that is the 'Walkabout' you can now enjoy the cool crisp taste of Australias favourite cold beer over here in England.
Check out their website... there will be one near you.
Even my local Morrisons stock it now.
