| Quote ="Bilko"Excellent Cas support tonight. Seems daft to say when you've let in 36 but superb defence from your side.
Report
Sorry to disagree here. I went to this game as a nuetral and have to say that Castlefords defence was what let them down. The Wigan centres ran through your boys at will and unfortunately your lads lost thier composure and gave away too many penalties.
I have watched Cas play before and they are a good team and can play some very good rugby. But for some reason it didn't happen for them in that match. Good luck in future games.

Have to agree with you here, Wigan had dropped reserve players down and this is what sometimes makes the competition unfair, especially for those players who may have played all season and then are sidelined for one particular game. It should be about player development, not about win at all costs. Often the Gillette Academy is unfair as you never know which team you will face from week to week and each team should play each other home and away, as some teams have stiffer competition by playing perhaps the top teams twice and others only have to play them once. No disrepect meant to any team here. But Wakefield played Harlequins twice home and away, whilst other teams only play them once. Like I said no disrepect mean to Harlequins they are young side and will obviously improve, the other teams have more experienced players and players they can drop down hence what happened to your Cas lads this week...........

You mean Wigan enhanced their chances of winning by adding players to their squad at the last minute to climb up the table..... No surely not! Not the "mighty" Wigan they would never go so low! You would never see this with a Wigan 1st team.... I guess it's a good job the Academy dont't have salary caps. What's next for Wigan? Sign Stanley Gene and give him a fake passport so he can play for the academy side.

Well I did reflect that in the report itself. I was refering to goal line defence in particular though.

Because those players that dropped down from Reserve level are the ones far more likely to step up to first team level if injuries require so you play them as often as possible. Wigan have always done this. They don't have set Under 18s and Reserves side. Everything is geared backwards from the first team. So if thiers no reserve game those that still qualify for the 18s drop back.
They all qualify at Under 18s level anyway so it isn't cheating. I don't know how many Under 18s play in your Reserve side but thier was nothing to stop Cas doing the same.

I know that the cas full back saved about 6 trys himself, but then went and did that big knock on when wigan kicked through.

No one suggesting it was Cheating I certainly didn't suggest that. I did say it should be more geared to player development. i.e those players who had played previously then sidelined imo should of continued to play with the team they had been playing with all season. Those playing for the reserves who dropped back would imo also benefit from a rest and week off from playing, we all know what a brutal sport it can be and all players benefit from the bodies having a rest.
I do however think it is clear to all why the players were dropped back and it was to strengthen wigans team and cement there spot in the top six. The rights and wrongs of that can be argued. Imo It should be about development. No one is suggesting cheating in any way just that it seems unfair to those players who had been dropped and that the leagues are not fairly balanced ie each team playing each other home and away. if it is to be solely about competition then that should be addressed also. development which is what I believe is should be about.

All those players have played under 18 academy rugby this season prior to the Cas game. Some have played at reserve level yes, due to injury and loan players in the reserves.
Wigan U18 academy also have two players in the U18 Community Lions side currently touring Australia, who obviously couldn't play inthe Cas game.
