| Quote ="Georgie Best on a Bloomer"OK. Tim Bresnan is "from" Cas (ie he has lived in the environs of Cas all his life, was schooled in Cas, played his club cricket for Cas-based teams). He was born in Pontefract General Infirmary Maternity department quite simply because there is no maternity hospital in Cas any more. If you believe that makes him "from" Pontefract, then Colin Cowdrey is from India and Derek Pringle is from Nairobi and Michael Vaughan is from Manchester. None of those people would say that they were "from" those places. They just happened to be born there.
The "Barnsley" joke was a little topical throwaway gag - as Wakefield looking at playing their games at Oakwell in Barnsley. I was trying to show how idiotic it is to try to tell someone where they're from. You certainly picked up on that bit (that it's an idiotic statement to make) but didn't make the connection. Sorry if I was being too [usubtle[/u for you.
There, now. Was that patronising enough.'"
So really then he was born in Pontefract and now lives in Cas, that is the [usubtle[/u difference, oh and I like the way you are now passing your attempt at a geography lesson off as a joke, it might be [usubtle[/u in your head just plain stupid to me matey as I asked before about you doing stand up if thats the strength of your humour then I doubt it, I do hope I don't come across as patronising as you though

No-one had ever denied that he was born in Pontefract.
However, may I remind you of what you said when you joined the discussion:
Quote ="mel plenderleith"Thought they all talked like that from Pontefract.'"
What you didn't say was Quote ="mel plenderleith never" Thought they all talked like that if they were born in Pontefract.'"
So what you're saying is, in effect, that Colin Cowdrey talked like someone from India (because that's where he was born despite being raised elsewhere), Derek Pringle talks like someone from Nairobi (ditto) and Michael Vaughan talks like a Mancunian (ditto). Or are you now changing the subject to imply that you never meant this? Or indeed are you trying to cover up the fact that you didn't really know where Tim Bresnan was brought up?
I also never thought that:
Quote ="Georgie Best on a Bloomer"As long as you regard Wakefield as being a suburb of Barnsley!
'"
could ever be remotely regarded as an attempt at a geography lesson. Especially with the at the end. Deary me, we are getting uptight, aren't we. Maybe you should have a nice lie down.

He was born in pontefract maternity unit as that is the local maternity unit, however he grew up in cas, went to to school in cas and played his his first cricket in cas, so he is a cas lad, to say otherwise makes you look a little foolish and sad.
I was born in pontefract hospital, (as are most people from cas, ponte, fev and knottingly and many from normy) i am and always will be a cas lad.
Ben westwood was born in bradford, though he is from normy.
Joanna lumley was born in india, would you not say she is an english actress?

Was there a boundary line running through your house? i doubt it very much. So where is the dilemma you were born in either Cas or Pontefract, there is a couple of clues here and to say you have had a university education imo does not bode well for our education system Firstly your mum assuming she was telling the truth paid her rates to Cas borough council which might lead one to suggest you live in Cas and not ponty, and secondly as you are aware and no doubt happy with the situation you are part of Wakey council which had you lived in Ponty you would not, so unfortunately you are from Cas although I not sure what Derby has got to do with it, and fwiw by the standard of some of your posts I am not totally convinced you have had an education at all and while we are on the subject of Ponty once and for all is Ponty part of Castleford or not because whether you like it or not Tim Bresnan was born in Pontefract not Castleford so stop trying to jump on the bandwagon because he had a good couple of games for England, I doubt it but I hth, thanks for the insults by the way no doubt a product of the Castleford education system

2 seperate issues here, why the the insult? have I insulted you no i havent so please do not show your lack of good manners and your ignorance by insulting me unless of course you went to school with speedie.
Secondly, he is 24 year old or there abouts and has not lived nearly all his life in Cas not yet anyway, if he lives there till he dies then you can say that, just one simple question and just a yes or no will do was he born in Pontefract, and my last point to you if he had got knocked all over the pitch in Melbourne and Sydney and had 2 disastrous games for his country would you be on here with a Tim Bresnan thread i doubt it, and what if that were the case and somebody said what do you expect he's a Cas lad, how many would have said no he's from Ponty, just shows what some lengths some people on here will go to for recognition.

Luckly for england he didn't so naturally we are bigging him up.....something wrong in that.
My 2 daughters where born in pontefract materity hospital, you ask them where they are from, they sure wont say pontefract.
If they had been born on the top deck of a double decker bus, you expect them to be from ''the top deck of a double decker bus'' your arguement is laughable.

I'm not getting uptight at all I merely offered to defuse your embarassment at your alleged attempt at humour with the Wakey in Barnsley quip
even the pathetic attempt to ridicule me by implying that it was a hilarious joke that somehow went over my head with it being too subtle for my intelligence, so I'm going to take your advice and go and have a lie down your too much hard work

There was no embarrassment on my part. All my friends will tell you that I only ever do throwaway gags like that (and can you come up with a quote where I've implied it was hilarious?). Still, I do seem to have hit a raw nerve somewhere with the Barnsley comment. Would you like me to offer a retraction?
