Power shift long has gone towards Union (once unpaid when time in league began) now the biggest payer & calling the shots in rugby. League will be the poor relation unless more money comes into RL at all levels. NRL is the only hope, can they ask a few up & coming Union talents to retire & take up Rugby League??

There are a fair few NRL players with RU backgrounds as juniors. I'd say RU here has pull way beyond money due to the chances of playing for the Wallabies being pretty high if you area a regular in one of the Super 15 teams.

Think the last big union player linked to the NRL was Quade Cooper. He was asking for big money from paramatta. Then the eels saw him play in the world cup.

Quade Cooper value dropped massively and paramatta dropped interest.

NRL teams can attract Australian Union players but I don't think there is much interest to be honest. They are not gonna take a risk on someone hoping he can become a very good league player.

Not looking good for Sale.
Castleford have emails showing that Sale initially offered 200k for Solomona. They then withdrew the offer claiming that their legal advisors confirmed Solomona would be free to play RU if he walked away from his contract, and offered Castleford 50k for a "quick and quiet deal".

They're in deep now. Diamond has also claimed that Solomona 'retired' from rugby league, then changed his mine and said that Cas 'fired' him. Oh dear me.

The facts right or wrong have no relevance on the issue, it is all down to who has best silvery tonged ambulance chaser to persuade the judge/jury on the day. It is how our system works you might have all the moral high ground but if you cant convince the court on the day you are stuffed.

Diamond seems to be Castleford's biggest asset in this case.
If these emails are genuine, he has aided the court to determine Castleford's minimum financial loss, as Sale offered 200k.
He has also completely screwed Sale's argument that Solomona was free to play RU with no repercussions. Why offer to pay Castleford if they genuinely believed Solomona could sign for nothing?
I wonder if Solomona knew that Sale withdrew their offer of 200k and changed it to 50k? If so, I can't understand how he is so angry it was declined. My guess is that Sale and Solomona's agent have not disclosed their tactics to him.
If I was in Denny Solomona's shoes, I'd be laying as much blame at the door of Clarke and Sale as possible. His best hope is to convince the court that Clarke did not fully inform him of the communications between Sale and Castleford and that he was misled, manipulated and coerced into breaching his contract based on the incorrect information he was provided by Clarke and Sale. He needs to convince the Court that Clarke and Sale duped him into doing something (breaching his contract) that he wouldn't otherwise have considered and he is therefore also an innocent party.
It might even be true.........

for any RL fans who think we should be pally with the RU code remember this quote from Sale Sharks Head of Rugby - Steve Diamond:-

"The club are prepared to pay £50,000 immediately and you will release Denny from his contract at the end of September after your last match. Hopefully you will see the sense in a quick, quiet deal."

To be honest, this latest spat doesn't change my opinion of the R.U. lot.

I really can't see this ending well for castleford. Sale sharks are an international brand, recognised the world over and they wouldn't want to damage that if they thought what they were doing was wrong. They would have sought the best legal advice possible so they must be pretty happy they will get off with it. You only need to check their website to see how professional they are. Compare it to castlefords which looks like the work experience lad made with Microsoft front page to see the difference between the 2 clubs. Cas just need to bite the bullet and ensure next time they unearth a gem, pay him what he asks for which by the way, wasn't unreasonable.

Sale Sharks sit 10th in the Aviva Premiership.
They are hardly "Manchester United" or "Wigan".
They are a decent English top flight club, not in the same caliber as Leicester or Bath .
Cas should no way "bite the bullet" or there will be an exodus from the sport.

He was also a gamble when Cas signed him and this was his first season he really looked like a record breaker (with thanks to Dorn/Gale/Webster). For all anyone knows the club might have been planning to offer him an improved contract/extension next season however when a player comes demanding more cash or they'll walk out on their contract its one way to quickly stop that from happening.





I know the Cas website isn't all singing all dancing however if you believe the Sharks website is professional you're clueless.
