| I thought Mathers had a decent game on Sunday probably alot better than he ever played for Cas , The problem i have with the whole abuse thing is i dont get why the Cas fans would give him it has its well documented that he didn't want to go, that said if he was that bothered about it why was he laughing at it at one point and when the chants of Winker Winker were been shouted (of course its wrong before anyone says otherwise) why did Mathers react by playing along giving a five knuckle shuffle motion as it was been shouted , Might have been better just saying and doing nowt.
Just for the record me personally I would have him back at Cas ,think hes a very good professional

| Some of you lot need to grow up!
He was sledged from the start of the game, so it was obvious he was going to enjoy scoring - that was the only way he could respond, short of getting involved in an argument with the crowd; if you gave it, you have to expect to get it back in some form or another.
Some of the hateful nonsense directed at him during the game and on Twitter deserved to be outed; good on Mathers.

So it's fine for him to have digs at the club & fans, but when he gets it back he's allowed to moan about it like the wet blouse he always is? Nice hypocrisy there.
They way Millward got rid of him was a disgrace, but the way Mathers has carried himself about it caused the reaction he got with his constant moaning & his jibes at the club & fans all season long.

So you're saying that in direct contrast to received wisdom, two wrongs in fact do make a right?

Well you were saying 3 wrongs make a right by congratulating Mathers on making himself look soft (again) by running off sulking
Funny how he didn't take offence to the Leeds players getting abuse from the Wakefield mob

| The most worrying thing for me about all this is that some people still wish to defend the actions of some fans. They still wish to defend the poor excuse for players and poor excuse of a club we have. Sunday was the first time EVER I have walked early from a game and it wasn't because we were losing it was because it showed me exactly where we are as a club, team and fans and I couldn't stomach it. We're miles behind where we should be and it's an embarrassment.
I have to laugh, we boo, abuse and generally throw all kinds of disgusting crap at Mathers (err, let's not pretend it was friendly banter or that he warranted any of it) but as soon as he says or does anything in response HE'S the one who is in the wrong. Fair play Richie, you scored a try and helped your team destroy mine. What better way to stick a finger up at your ex-club and the boo boys. Also, fair play to a bunch of Cas fans who tried to show Mathers that not all us Cas fans are idiots. I think he saw that and appreciated it too.
Good luck Wakey.
Get a grip Cas ffs.

Come on, there is a world of difference between the odd dig on social media most of which IMHO is more imagined than real - and outright foul mouthed vicious abuse. Surely any fair minded person can see that. Jeez I'm not even being critical of Cas fans doing it, it's part of the game and all fans do it now and then. What amazes me is your somehow trying to make yourselves out to be the victims here with this self righteous indignation - that is what I call real hypocrisy of the highest order.

| When Mathers scored at MM, did he celebrate? No. Why? Out of respect and he wasn't being abused from the first minute. And I have yet to see any "dig" he has made towards Cas.

This - well said, and thank you.
I'm quite surprised that the actions of the minority of Cas fans who took the sledging to an unacceptable level aren't being more roundly condemned by their more moderate fellows; Mathers has done nothing wrong, other than perhaps sign a contract at Cas in the first place, so I'm baffled by the level of vitriol directed at him; as it seems, was he.
The malaise at Cas runs much deeper than the Richie Mathers situation - I'd suggest you need to look elsewhere to vent your frustration.

| Don't agree with verbal abuse of him but do have a joke about him being a reject.
But I walked out the ground on Sunday stating that I'd take back Richie Mathers next season if we can. Say what you like about him, he ripped us to shreds from full-back.
I'd say that Millward needs to realise that depth is key and that there is a place for Richie Mathers at Castleford Tigers.

It wasn't sledging. It was disgusting foul mouthed abuse. I'm surprised, shocked, at the vitriolic abuse he took because he's not done a damn thing wrong in any of this.

| The chanting was disgusting, and where are the stewards when these cretins are in full flow? They are capable of moving an individual on but they won't tackle tanked up groups of yobs. Looking at some of the stewards, they could just about tackle a pork pie and not much else!
The club need to make a stand and get rid of these 1% of idiots that give the other 99% of Cas fans a bad name. We pride ourselves on being a family club but I would not want any of my nephews attending games and hearing that sort of vitriolic language.

| Quote ="vastman"Cause he was celebrating and I don't blame him the unfair abuse he took from some of you lot - you're yet another cycloptic fan I this case.
Jeez Hudson virtually makes love to his Cas badge on the rare occasions you beat us and we don't moan, and that bloke took your silver and was banned for 2 years if we're talking class!'"
If you care to check you will find I bemoaned the release of Mathers at the time and in playing terms have continued to question it's wisdom, nay sanity, ever since. The ball throwing after the first try appeared genuinely spontaneous but his antics after the second were OTT and looked deliberately inflammatory. That doesn't make him a bad man or a bad player, just a bad professional and criticising it doesn't make me 'cycloptic'.
I don't fully understand the Hudson reference. He was a Bradford player when banned for substance abuse during their pre-season so the link between the ban and taking our silver as you put it is unclear to me. You're right about the lack of class it reflected but my post was specific to Mathers and did not imply we were unafflicted by similar clots.

| Hang on a minute isn't throwing the ball into the crowd a little different? It could have caused damage if it had hit someone, thats why it is an offense to do it. And for the record I was disgusted by the way he was treated by our fans. But just the same hope I never see the idiot in a Cas shirt again.

| Let's just take a moment to remember who cast the first stone here.....Yes that's right it was Ian Millward on behalf of the Cas club.
Having treat the guy so badly, (and let's be honest they did) how can Cas expect the guy not to be p'd off! As I've said before, the way he was pushed out of the club would in any other business be grounds for a strong case being constructively dismissed. If any of us faced the same from our jobs, then I'd expect that our former employers wouldn't get much favour from us either. Given the chance to get one over on them, we probably would.
Also, no matter what a guy played like for us...why does that give a portion of the crowd the self proclaimed right to have a go at him each time he plays against us? Again let's have a moment of honesty between us Cas fans here, from the first time he stepped foot on the pitch against us during the early part of the year, the Cas fans were giving him grief. (And I do mean grief, not banter). That was well before any Twitter comments and stuff like that!

Treated him badly......according to Richie Mathers.
The club told him he was behind Owen in the pecking order and that he could stay and be back-up. Wakefield were interested at the time and so they gave him the option of going. As they didn't know what he was doing, they cut him out of the 'pitch' training but still let him do weights/gym work with the rest of the squad.
I can see why they'd do it. People need to realise there's two sides to every story and be objective in this.
