| There's no place for being pedantic.
You knew exactly what he meant (of which there are more overseas players than he stated).
Anyway, my understanding (of last) was that it was 5 overseas players. Clubs have been given dispensation due to various factors such as residency and the Crusaders situation.

| Mellars is exempt. Tony has played once this year, can't see him being here next season. So there's only John, Lauititi and Aiton who are overseas. Lauititi is more English than Chase.

What about Smith, Southern and Collis? They're all still technically overseas players, though, Dan regardless of exemptions.

Yeah they are, there's no denying the fact that all three are Aussie's who take up quota spaces. But that's normal behaviour for all Super League clubs. Warrington have Hodgson, J Monaghan, M Monaghan, etc.

| 6 from a squad off 33.
Ok it could be better, but I'm sure there are statistically worse clubs.
Personally I would set a limit of three o/s players per club, and that means if you weren't born and bread you were an o/s player.
It's good to see colourful o/s players coming and adding something to SL but there is way too much beige, and when you consider that most clubs have more o/s players than the entire NRL has British players, you can see why we are so far behind!!

Not being pedantic, just pointing out facts
And exactly what he meant was "just been lookign at wakie website more then 6 aussies" now I cannot see any ambiguity in that statement, only a total miss-reporting of the facts

| Lauitiiti is exempt from the Non-fed Trained Quotaas he was here before 2008, whether he counts on the Overseas Quota I'm not sure but I'd guess he is exempt.
For example Leeds have 4 overseas players in their squad - Webb, Leuluai, Delaney & Hauraki.
Webb & Leuluai don't count on the Non-Fed Trained for the same reason as Lauitiiti
And Leuluai also doesn't count on the Overseas Quota
So Leeds have an Overseas Quota of 3/5 with Webb, Delaney & Hauraki
And a Non-Fed Trained Quota of 2/5 of Delaney & Hauraki

No he won't count on either the Overseas Quota (as he is an EU citizen with an EU passport) or the Non-Fed Trained Quota as he is from and was developed at a club within the Federation so counts as a Federation trained player.

| I would take a team of Yorkshire accents and finish where we are; than import Lee Mitchells or Grant Millingtons at the expense of Massey, Holmes, Thompson.
Not having a pop at Millo, actually thought he was good yesterday and is starting to be a little bit more influencial. Was always going to take time to settle and get form and confidence back.

Me too, Id love to see the other SL clubs taking on some of the promising French lads and giving them an opportunity, as despite the great work Catalans are doing there's only 17 places every week. I think it'd benefit the French game massively.

| A sporting organisation cannot ban anyone purely on the grounds of nationality. That would be racist, discriminatory and against the law.
Many foreign born players have a legal right to live and work in the EU and the RFL cannot decide to exclude them.
Many Australian born players have EU passports so they do not count on the quota. Many players have passports from the south pacific islands and they too cannot count on the quota because of the KOLPAK agreement with the EU.
If you have an Australian or New Zealand passport and nothing else you are on the quota and there is a limit of 5 but many, many players get round this by applying for other passports. If they get one they have a legal right to live & work in the UK.
What the RFL can do is apply the 'non federation trained' limit of 5 - this is nothing to do with where a player was born or what passport they have but is about where they played rugby prior to the age of 21. The UK Borders Agency have allowed the RFL to implement this rule in order to help develop young players, however players must come off this list after they have been here 3 years, for example Rangi Chase.
I'll give you an example, Rhys Lovegrove of Hull KR. Born in Australia but has a UK passport which means he is not on the quota. He also played for Hull KR prior to the age of 21 so he is not on the non federation trained list either (even if he had been he would be off now having been here over 3 years)
There's nothing the RFL can do about this even if they wanted to so it's quite pointless for supporters to demand otherwise. You may as well say limit the number of players with certain skin colours, you just can't do it it's racist and illegal.
People have to understand that sporting bodies like the RFL have to abide by the law and cannot decide themselves who can and cannot live & work in this country. Clubs do not have to sign anyone of course but the RFL cannot create their own rules to restrict opportunity to those who would otherwise be entitled to work here. That's why quota's can never ever be anything other than a token gesture.

yeah, some get picked up by the french RU clubs - Dimitri Pelo tried his hand at Montpellier RU and lasted a couple of seasons before realising he was really out of place and ended up in the NRL

I'd check that.
Of course it's a token gesture, but it's one needed so clubs invest in youth.
Uefa and Fifa have brought similar rules in.
