Bl000dy hell, can't believe he's gone at such an age. Any idea what happened to him? One of my first Fax heroes too and was gutted when he signed for Wigan. RIP and condolences to his family.

Sad news and very young. I still have my autograph book at home that I took to matches when I was a lad. Jimmy's was one of the first I got along with Mick Blacker.

Regrets? I have a few.
Watched Fax as a boy and then as a man.
My employment moved me from Halifax in 1974, never saw a game until 1987, no, not a glory hunter, just turned the television on that Saturday afternoon, by chance it was Fax's quarter final, went to Leeds with my sons Halifaxsteve and Halifaxpaul and went to Wembley with them.
Since then despite living away from Halifax for 23 years we hardly missed a game. Came home in 1998.
My regret? 13 lost years, never saw Jimmy Birts play, never even knew who he was, but? if he played for Fax or indeed if he played Rugby League, he must have been an ok bloke.

Sad news RIP Jimmy one of my first Fax heroes too as he was a shining light in a poor team in that era he was a great goal kicker very reliable probably why Wigan signed him.
