What do we think?
www.halifaxcourier.co.uk/sport/h ... -1-5108577
Personally I think that licencing and lack of investment in lower leagues, both financially and culturally, has created too big a gulf for promotion and relegation to be creditable.
I suppose the licencistas will blame the championship clubs for that tho....

| P&R is central to most sports.
Give the 'mediocre' clubs something to play for and watch the crowds and interest in the sport grow again at the lower levels.
Will still need some RFL governance like salary caps etc.. but P&R must come back in my humble view.

| Promotion and relegation in its simplest form between a full time league and a part time league is just not feasible.
Only option in my opinion would be to have a 2 tier SL but also in my opinion teams like Halifax would struggle to afford to run a full time operation in the 2nd tier.

| sounds very sensible to me - the clubs consistently at the bottom of the SL have something to fight for now instead of just being plain rubbish

the 2nd tier teams dont have to be all fulltime players. a 50/50 mixture is a good start, for those that get promoted they can then decide what next.

So what, ask any West Brom fan if they like being labelled yo-yo club.
The fans love the excitement and thrill of P&R, nowt wrong with being a YO-YO club beats being cannon fodder every week every season.

So you are saying do nowt then?
The game is thriving is it?
Could have fooled me with the recent international games which have been a disaster, poor crowds (despite nearly giving tickets away) and England despite only playing in third gear thrash France and Wales.

Yer P&R from a semi pro league to a full time league will not be easy and vice versa, but some mechanism can be thought up that helps clubs going either way, but not too much to give them an unfair advantage over the other clubs, not sure how but with some deep thinking a formula can be worked up I am sure. Think about the interest a relegation decider will generate and especially a Championship Grand Final where you get promoted, remember Cas v Widnes!
Plus the game will not be open to the corrupt RFL deciding who goes up and who stays in SL (I have my doubts they will ever relegate a SL team), now that must be worth doing!

| If Fax can compete and not lose vast amounts of money then we should go for it. But I also dont trust the SL clubs or the RFL and I wont be getting my hopes up any time soon things will change that much. Its OK saying SL 1 will have 12 teams but how many teams will SL 2 have and will that include teams who have links with Sl clubs? We would need a minimum of 8. so say 2 SL teams, Fax, Fev, Sheffield and Leigh then who? Toulouse maybe but then who and thats just for a 8 team league. Sorry I just cant see this happening under them ideas.

Past experience shows that clubs have less money when they come back down. Relegation is often followed by ... relegation.

[size=200IF[/size there's a two tier $uperleague, it'll be two tens, four no-hopers to be "relegated" to $uperleague 2 (Cas, Widnes, Wakefield, Salford probably), Halifax, Sheffield, Leigh, Fev, Toulouse and ... who knows ? The RFL would no doubt like to see a Welsh team in there. Or a second London team. I'd like to see a Cumbrian team - but I don't think any of them are financially strong enough at the moment.
But it all depends on making the finance work. Like it or not, money's the driving factor.

Your point seems to be stay with the current Franchising system which is quite frankly defranchising the public.

Just short of fifty years - what about you ?
If promotion and relegation is to be reintroduced, we need to get into a position where there isn't such a huge gap between the finances of the divisions. Until we do that, it won't work.
Your chairman has publicly said that there's no sugar daddy at Halifax. By contrast, Ken Davy chips about million into the Shuddersfield pot every year. Where's your million going to come from ?
[iNote - £1m = around 10000 adult season tickets, after deducting VAT[/i
Even in our division, one team is losing huge wedges every year for a modest return in silverware. What's their strategy ?
