Quote ="freddies wig"Here's my assessment of the season, just thought I'd throw it out there, see what everyone thinks.
Overall, can be seen as a disappointment, but then the bar was set very high in previous seasons. Some positives - the cup final, the board ebing able to attract someone of the calibre of Brian Noble to the club
Here, for me, are the key areas:
The coach situation
Well handled, in my opinion. To be fair, I think that having a raised salary cap for 2010 was the main reason we were champions. I think Matt was seriously found out when having to use the same resources as everyone else. Defence was non existent. Lets not forget we could easily have been relegated. The board acted well, did what they needed to do and not making any statements was the correct thing to do. We all know why Matt went.
The squad
Pack not big enough and no half back to move us round the pitch - some poor recruitment and retention of "buddies" here.
The SL Licence Application
Did we really expect to get in? Can any championship club without someone bankrolling them ever expect to get a licence again? I can understand the board's initial anger and respect their statement and silence since then - probably for the best!
The NRC Cup Final
A plus - but - we should have won eh?
The appointment of KH
Something I feel the board has been aiming for for a while and they should be commended on getting their man and with how they dealt with the whole situaution.
So, a disaster on the pitch, the expected knock back for SL, at last a new coach who can move us forward and inject some pride and rid us of the indifference and a board who are making some good decisions.
Onwards and upwards, next year can only be better, and hopefully all championship clubs and fans can come together and make the championships great'"
Spot on that.
Highs were few, the wins at Leigh, at Fev in the NRC, the backs to the wall effort at Barrow and the NRC Final which was a great game and the play off win at Batley none were at home funny that.
Lows, going all the way to Toulouse and seeing us lose in the rain to a poor team, same at York and at home to Barrow.
But getting rid of Calland was crucial to make sure we can clear out and start again with a guy that is Halifax through and through and has a great coaching pedigree.
