Young Wakefield hooker Matthew Wildie has agreed a new two-year contract at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.

Wildie, 20, has forced himself in to the first team picture this season, having graduated from the Wildcats academy.

He said: "I’m really happy to have signed another contract here, ever since I was a child all I have wanted to do is play for Wakefield and it’s fantastic that I’m finally living that dream.

"I’m looking forward to a great few years here and I hope I cement myself as first team regular. I’d like to thank everyone at the Club for giving me this opportunity."

Wildie follows Frankie Mariano in committing his short term future to the club.

Wildcats Chief Executive James Elston added: "It’s fantastic to have Matty on board, he epitomises everything we want to do with the future of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and that is to sign and keep local home grown talent.”

"Matty has truly earned this extension and we look forward to seeing him become an established Wakefield first team player."

All contacts will be void if they get kicked out of SL

If he wants to play for his home town club then he can do. Whatever league they're in.

Do you not credit the management at Wakefield with the intelligence to have considered this?

Just as much as giving credit to the managent at Wakefield to insert a clause saying the contract will be void if no longer in SL.

Talking to a guy who helps out voluntarily at Wakey and he says they know SL will be 16 teams and that even the refs are saying Wakey have nowt to worry about!

That's what I've said in other posts. 16 teams in sl next season with a Matt Calland and Brian noble led Halifax in there as well as wakefield

they voted against the idea of expanding SL last year so when is there going to be a meeting to vote for it? less than 2 months before SL licences for next 3 years to be announced.

Guy at Wakey didn't say which ref told them they were ok for SL but they way the RFL is run it is quite likely that the refs wil be told which grounds they will be reffing at next season before the clubs find out.

But, back to the point of this thread, I would have thought that, even if Wakefield weren't in Super League next season they'd want to keep a talented young local player who wanted nothing more than to play for them. Therefore, why insert such a clause?
