| Firstly I hope that you can make it to this Friday's 90's night - I have got my usual clothes so should fit in nicely!
For those that don't know, it is a fundraiser for the under 23's side organised by my good friend and great club volunteer Linda Kitson. For those that don't know Linda then come along on the night and she will be the one drooling at the presence of Mark Preston!
I have spoken with Linda and there's been a lot of work going on behind the scenes, she has managed to get great support from the players and there's some real old favourites coming along. If you want to come along then have a look at the other thread for details.
I would like you to share some of your fondest and also funniest memories on this forum so I can remind some of the players of your stories! I have put stuff like this on the forum in the past and got some great stories/anecdotes so your help would be appreciated.
I have a few interesting stories regarding some of the players but if you want to hear them then you'll have to come along!
Some of the players coming along are Greg Austin, Mark Preston, John Fieldhouse, Paul Round, Henry Sharp, Mick Keebles, Roy Southernwood, Gary Lord, Richard Smith, Wilf George & Karl Harrison.
So please feel free to comment on your favourite old players!
Cheers
Pete

| Mark Peston in full sprint leaving people in his wake was a cracking sight. Not many wingers about like that these days... Should be a good night. I look forward to spending a night with ma boss!

One of the few players along with Bentley and Dave Watson for me that made you stand up on your toes to see what was happening. A stunning player with ball in hand and in full flight. I still have a photo of him holding my 2 year old daughter at Central park on the wall of my office and she is nearly 20 now!

'" I remember when Dave Watson got banned and he came training with us at Illingworth amateur rugby league club - our coach didn't know him and after training he said "right pal i'm gonna give you a run out with the 2nd team and we'll see how you go"! His face was a picture when we pointed out he was a Kiwi international!

| For me one of the players to stand out was John Schuster. Awesome with the boot. And the drop goal at Odsal. Any player that can spoil their day is up there with the best IMO

| I can remember when Karl Harrison, John Fieldhouse and Mark Preston came down to the Shay a few years ago and the talk turned around to the way the role of a winger in the team had changed since the days when Mark played. In Marks day the wingers stayed very much to the wing and did not "come in " like they do now. The two ex props were gently pokeing fun at Mark over this and also kidding him as to how to some extent the props felt they should " look after" the more diminutive wingers to which Mark just smiled.
So then someone asked if they had suffered any injuries and Karl told of "broken this and that and John had amongst other things a broken jaw. They both looked at Preston awaiting his answer so Mark replied " I remember a time over at Leeds a game that got a bit rough and I ended up with a very badly mussed up hairdo". It wasn`t pretty I can tell you. The audience and the two ex props had a good laugh at that.
I do remember Mark geting injured though, wasn`t it because of a particularly bad tackle on him by a Leeds player that lit the time bomb in the Easter match at Thrum Hall where we had 2 sent off and the " infamous what a waste of money "came from every Fax fan in the ground.Or am I mixing my matches up.
Another memory I have of Mark was he was the first person I knew who had a personel number plate FAX 5 and when he arrived at a game one day someone asked him about it. He replied " I like my number plate as when I am traveling along the M62 people know I play for Halifax and thats where I`m going or coming away from.

Think your right about the match but the "what a waste of money" chant came from the previous Good Friday game when we beat them at Headingly when Henry Sharp went around Hanley and Heugh like they wernt even there, also the same game Preston played the ball the wrong way when he got clattered in the tackle and Milner chinned Morvin Edwards for biting him.
